The Communist Party of Venezuela (, PCV) is a communist party in Venezuela. Founded in 1931, it is the oldest active political party in Venezuela, and was the country's main leftist party until it fractured into rival factions in 1971. The PCV currently opposes the government of Nicolás Maduro. History The PCV was founded in 1931 as a clandestine organization during the military dictatorship of Juan Vicente Gómez. The National Assembly () is the federal legislature of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, which was first elected in 2000 under the Constitution of Venezuela, 1999 constitution. It is a unicameral body made up of a variable number of members, who are elected by a "universal, direct, personal, and secret" vote partly by direct election in state-based voting districts, and partly on a state-based party-list proportional representation system. The Republic of Venezuela, also sometimes referred to as the Fourth Republic of Venezuela, was a democratic republic first established in 1953, and replaced in 1999 by the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
