Òrrius () is a village and municipality in the comarca of Maresme in the province of Barcelona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. The municipality is delimited by La Roca del Vallès to the North, Vilassar de Dalt to the South East, Argentona to the south, and Cabrils to the southwest. History Cited for the first time as ''vila de Orreos'' in documents from 974. This name, that has its origin in Latin, means "Barns". It formed part of the lands of the Lords of Burriac until in 1357 King Peter IV of Aragon conceded jurisdiction of the area to the Lords of Roca del Vallés. Main sights The village is centred on the church of Sant Andreu (Saint Andrew), built in the 16th century in the late Gothic style. It is on the Latin cross plan, and has back to back chapels that were added later. There is also a small Romanesque hermitage. Cabrils
Cabrils () is a city and municipality in the comarca of Maresme in the province of Barcelona and autonomous community of Catalonia, Spain. It is situated between the municipalities of Vilassar de Mar, Vilassar de Dalt, Òrrius, Argentona and Cabrera de Mar, about ten kilometres from Mataró, the comarca capital. Cabrils is surrounded by the hills of Cirers and Montcabrer, among abundant forests of pines and holm oaks and is largely dominated by housing developments. History Cabrils came into history after it was first mentioned in 1037, as a part of the jurisdiction of the neighboring castle of Vilassar de Dalt. Maresme
Maresme () is a ''comarca'' (county) in the Barcelona region in Catalonia, located along the Mediterranean coast, between the ''comarques'' of Barcelonès (at the Southwest) and Selva (at the Northeast), and also bordering with Vallès Oriental (at the west). Its capital and largest city is Mataró (pop. 119,035 in 2007). Geography Maresme occupies a long and narrow area between the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of Serralada Litoral (Catalonia's coastal mountains), and specifically Montnegre's and 's hills in the northern half and Sant Mateu's hills in the southern half. Argentona
Argentona () is a municipality in the ''comarca'' of the Maresme in Catalonia, Spain. It is situated on the south-east side of the granite littoral zone, to the north-west of Mataró. The town is both a tourist centre and a notable horticultural centre. A local road links the municipality with Cabrera de Mar and with the main N-II road at Vilassar de Mar. The town centre has buildings in a wide range of styles. The late gothic church of Sant Julià was restored by Josep Puig i Cadafalch. The same architect designed ''Casa Gari'', a private residence adjoining the chapel of Sant Miquel del Cros, a work in the style of Antoni Gaudà by LluÃs Bonet (1929). Vilassar de Dalt () is a village in Catalonia, Spain, in the province of Barcelona and the Comarques of Catalonia, ''comarca'' of Maresme. The name comes from the Roman name ''Villa Azari'', later changed to ''Vilassar''. Mataró
Mataró () is the capital and largest town of the Maresme county in Catalonia, Spain. Berenguer Ramon II "the Fratricide" (1053/54 – 1097/99) was count of Barcelona from 1076 to 1097. He was the son of Ramon Berenguer I and Almodis of La Marche, and initially ruled jointly with his twin brother Ramon Berenguer II. Life Born in 1053 or 1054, Berenguer Ramon succeeded his father Ramon Berenguer I "the Old" in 1076 to co-rule with his twin brother Ramon Berenguer II. The twins failed to cooperate, leading Pope Gregory VII to appeal for their reconciliation in 1079. The Catalonian possessions were divided between them, against the will of their late father, and it was agreed that the brothers would alternate their residence at the palace in Barcelona every six months.
