Étienne Mayrand

	Étienne Mayrand Étienne Mayrand (September 3, 1776 – January 22, 1872) was a Quebec businessman and political figure. He was born in Montreal in 1776 and went on to work in the fur trade with the North West Company. He established a business in grain and hay at Rivière-du-Loup (later Louiseville in Maskinongé County, Quebec, Maskinongé County), also expanding into real estate and money lending. Mayrand served in the militia as an officer during the War of 1812, becoming captain and, in 1846, major. He also held several posts as commissioner in Lower Canada. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada for Saint-Maurice County, Quebec, Saint-Maurice County in 1816. Mayrand served as a member of the Special Council of Lower Canada, Special Council which governed the province following the Lower Canada Rebellion and was named to the Legislative Council of the Province of Canada in June 1841. 	Hormidas Mayrand Hormidas Mayrand (August 15, 1858 – July 4, 1928) was a Canadian politician. Born in St-Léon, Canada East, the son of Jean-Baptiste Mayrand (and grandson of Étienne Mayrand) and Marie Louise Lottinville, Mayrand was educated at the model school of St-Léon. A farmer by occupation, he was first elected to the House of Commons of Canada for the Quebec electoral district of Maskinongé in a 1903 by-election, after the sitting MP, Joseph-Hormisdas Legris, was called to the Senate of Canada. 	Louis Picotte Louis Picotte (May 4, 1780 – May 7, 1827) was a farmer, merchant and political figure in Quebec. He represented Saint-Maurice in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada from 1820 to 1824 as a member of the Parti canadien. He was born in Rivière du-Loup (later Louiseville), the son of Jean-Baptiste Picotte, an Acadian refugee, and Hélène Jarlais. Picotte was a voyageur in the Northwest with McTavish, Frobisher and Company. In 1810, he married his second cousin Archange Déjarlais. 	Joseph-Rémi Vallières De Saint-Réal Joseph-Rémi Vallières de Saint-Réal (October 1, 1787 – February 17, 1847) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born Joseph-Rémi Vallière at Carleton, Quebec, on the Bay of Chaleur, in 1787, the son of blacksmith Jean-Baptiste Valliere and his wife Marguerite Cornelier (dit Grandchamp). On April 23, 1799, Joseph-Rémi, his mother, father and siblings were all hired at Quebec City as workers by John Blackwood, agent for Joseph-Genevieve de Puisaye (the Comte de Puisaye). They were to join a party of French Royalists, refugees from the French Revolution, at Kingston, Upper Canada. This group, under de Puisaye's leadership, was on its way to York County to establish a settlement on Yonge Street, north of Elgin Mills and south of Bond Lake, on land that is now part of the city of Richmond Hill, Ontario. 	Pierre Bureau Pierre Bureau (October 9, 1771 – June 6, 1836) was a businessman and political figure in Lower Canada. He was born in L’Ancienne-Lorette, Quebec in 1771. Bureau operated an inn for travellers at Sainte-Anne-de-la-Pérade and a ferry service across the Sainte-Anne River. Around 1811, he moved to Trois-Rivières, where he became a merchant. He was elected to the Legislative Assembly of Canada for Saint-Maurice in an 1819 by-election and represented that region until his death at Trois-Rivières in 1836. Jean-Georges-Barthélemy-Guillaume-Louis Gugy (January 1770 – July 17, 1840) represented Saint-Maurice in the Legislative Assembly of Lower Canada and the Legislative Council of Lower Canada.
