Émile Vernaudon
Émile André Vernaudon (born 8 December 1943) is a former French Polynesian politician and Cabinet Minister. The leader of the Aia Api party, he served as President of the Assembly of French Polynesia twice, first from 1981 to 1983, and the second time from 1991 to 1992. He served as Minister of Posts and Telecommunications in the Cabinet of Oscar Temaru. He represented French Polynesia's 2nd constituency in the French National Assembly twice, from 1988 to 1993, and again from 1997 to 2002. From 1977 to 2008 he served as Mayor of Mahina. In 2007 he was convicted on the first of a long series of corruption charges stemming from his time as mayor of Mahina and as Minister of Posts and Telecommunications. After serving time in jail, he retired from politics in 2011. Political career A surveyor by profession, Vernaudon became mayor of Mahina in 1977. 2018 French Polynesian Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in French Polynesia on 22 April and 6 May 2018. On 22 April 2018, voters cast their ballots in the first round of the election to the Assembly of French Polynesia. A second round was held on 6 May 2018 for the three political parties that exceeded 12.5 percent of the vote in the first round. The new Tapura Huiraatira party emerged as the largest in the Assembly, winning 38 of the 57 seats in a landslide. Honotua is a submarine communications cable system that connects several islands of French Polynesia via Tahiti to Hawaii. The cable was laid by the cableship between December 2009 and June 2010. The international portion of cable contains a single fibre pair specified for 32x10 Gbit/s wavelength each, with initial lit capacity of 2x10 Gbit/s. The domestic system has 2 pairs of fibres specified for 8x10 Gbit/s each, with an initial lit capacity of 2x2.5 Gbit/s. The Office des postes et télécommunications de Polynésie française (OPT, ) is an établissement public à caractère industriel et commercial responsible for providing Mail, postal, telecommunications, and Postal savings system, basic financial services in French Polynesia. 1997 French Legislative Election
Legislative elections were held in France on 25 May and 1 June 1997 to elect the 11th National Assembly (France), National Assembly of the French Fifth Republic. It was the consequence of President Jacques Chirac's decision to call the legislative election one year before the deadline.
