''Madame Sans-Gêne'' (''Madame Careless'') is a 1925 American silent romantic costume comedy-drama film directed by Léonce Perret and starring Gloria Swanson. Based on the 1893 play of the same name by Victorien Sardou and Émile Moreau, the film was released by Paramount Pictures. The screenplay was by Forrest Halsey and Leonce Perret directed. Plot As described in a film magazine review, at the time after the French Revolution, a sharp-witted laundress fights for her country and wins favor with a Duke. After her marriage to him, she is accepted in the court of Napoleon. Because her manners are not fashionable, she is called before Napoleon. The Comédie-Française () or Théâtre-Français () is one of the few state theatres in France. Founded in 1680, it is the oldest active theatre company in the world. Established as a French state-controlled entity in 1995, it is the only state theatre in France to have its own permanent troupe of actors. The company's primary venue is the Salle Richelieu, which is a part of the Palais-Royal complex and located at 2, Rue de Richelieu on Place André-Malraux in the 1st arrondissement of Paris. The theatre has also been known as the Théâtre de la République and popularly as "La Maison de Molière" (The House of Molière). Marion Delorme (3 October 1613 – 2 July 1650) was a French courtesan known for her relationships with the important men of her time. Biography She was the daughter of Jean de Lou, sieur de l'Orme, president of the treasurers of France in Champagne, and of Marie Chastelain. Francis de Croisset (; born Franz Wiener, 28 January 1877 – 8 November 1937) was a Belgian-born French playwright and opera librettist. Early life Born as Franz Wiener, he was educated in Brussels on 28 January 1877 into a prominent Jewish-Belgian family that was distinguished in diplomacy and the army. His parents were Alexandre Jacques Wiener and Eugenie Bertha (née Straus) Wiener. After moving to France, where he spent most of his life, he had his name changed by Presidential decree. At age 17, he rebelled against his parents' wishes that he take up a military career, and ran away to Paris. In 1901, his play ''Chérubin'' was produced at the Comédie-Française where Cécile Sorel (later the Comtesse de Ségur) made her debut in it. Champmeslé
Charles Chevillet, ''sieur de'' ''Champmeslé'', (20 October 1642 – 22 August 1701) was a 17th-century French actor and playwright (see Troupe of the Comédie-Française in 1680). Biography Champmeslé made his theatre debut in 1665 in a troupe of the province, and married Marie Desmares in Rouen on 9 January 1666. He then played at the Théâtre du Marais then at the Hôtel de Bourgogne and became one of the first sociétaires of the Comédie-Française. When he died, coming out of a tavern, the priest of Saint-Sulpice refused the funeral service and Champmeslé was buried in the garden of his house in Asnières.
