Élie-Jean Vézien
Élie-Jean Vézien was born in Marseille on 18 July 1890 and died in Marseille on 7 September 1982. He was a French sculptor, engraver and medallist. Biography Vézien started work in 1904 as apprentice to a goldsmith in Marseille who taught him engraving. He was introduced to François Carli and was enrolled at the Marseille Ếcole des Beaux-Arts. In 1911 he won a bursary which allowed him to continue his studies in Paris, but he received his call-up for the French army which meant his departure for Paris was delayed. However his term of service was cut short, due it is said to the influence of Auguste Carli, and in May 1914 he sat the entrance examination for the Paris Ẻcole nationale supérieure des Beaux-Arts. He passed with flying colours and became a student of Jules Coutan. His stay at the college was however short-lived, and when in August 1914 war broke out, he was mobilized and back in uniform. Marseille

The Centre national des arts plastiques (National Centre for Visual Arts, or CNAP) is a French institution established in 1982 under the Ministry of Culture and Communication that promotes creation of visual arts. It provides assistance to artists and galleries, and manages the '' Fonds national d'art contemporain'' (FNAC; National Foundation for Contemporary Art). Background The CNAP has its origins in the ''Division des Beaux-Arts'' (Fine Arts Division) created in 1791 just after the French Revolution with its own budget to encourage living artists and educate citizens. Prix De Rome For Sculpture
Prix was an American power pop band formed in Memphis, Tennessee, in 1975 by Tommy Hoehn and Jon Tiven. The group ended up primarily as a studio project. Its recordings were produced by Tiven along with former Big Star member Chris Bell, who also played guitar and sang backup vocals. Prix is also famous for its use of banjo. Alex Chilton also participated in the recordings, along with session drummer Hilly Michaels. Although the group generated some major record label interest—notably from Mercury Records and Columbia/CBS Records—it ultimately only released a double A-side single on Ork Records in 1977 and a single on Miracle Records in 1978. Its only live performance came at a CBS Records showcase in 1976. In 1977, just as Ork Records released the first single and booked the group at CBGB, Prix broke up due both to Hoehn's unwillingness to remain in New York and to creative differences.
