Édouard Laberge
Édouard Laberge (August 21, 1829 – August 22, 1883) was a physician and political figure in Quebec. He represented Châteauguay in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1867 to 1882 as a Liberal. He was born in Sainte-Philomène, Lower Canada, the son of François Laberge and Appoline Brault. Laberge was educated at the collège de Montréal and McGill University McGill University (french: link=no, Université McGill) is an English-language public research university located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. Legislative Assembly Of Quebec
The Legislative Assembly of Quebec (French: ''Assemblée législative du Québec'') was the name of the lower house of Quebec's legislature from 1867 to December 31, 1968, when it was renamed the National Assembly of Quebec. At the same time, the upper house of the legislature, the Legislative Council, was abolished. Both were initially created by the Constitution Act, 1867. It was the Union Nationale government of Premier Jean-Jacques Bertrand that passed the "Bill 90" legislation to abolish the upper house, but earlier attempts had been made by earlier governments. The presiding officer of the Assembly was known in French as ''orateur'', a literal translation of the English term, '' speaker''. When the Assembly was renamed so too was the title of its presiding officer, becoming known as the President. Today, Quebec has a unicameral legislature, whose single house is the National Assembly. Châteauguay (provincial Electoral District)
Châteauguay is a provincial riding (electoral district) in the Montérégie region of Quebec, Canada, that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. It notably includes the city of Châteauguay. It was originally created in 1867 (and an electoral district of that name existed earlier in the Legislative Assembly of the Province of Canada). Its final election was in 1936. It disappeared in the 1939 and its successor electoral district was Châteauguay-Laprairie. However, Châteauguay-Laprairie only existed for one election. Châteauguay was re-created for the 1944 election. In the change from the 2001 to the 2011 electoral map, it lost Sainte-Catherine to the newly created Sanguinet electoral district. Joseph-Émery Robidoux
Joseph-Émery Robidoux, (March 10, 1843 – March 15, 1929) was a lawyer, judge and political figure in Quebec. He represented Châteauguay in the Legislative Assembly of Quebec from 1884 to 1892 and from 1897 to 1900 as a Liberal. He was born in Saint-Philippe, Canada East, the son of Toussaint Robidoux and Marguerite Demers, and was educated at the Collège de Montréal, at the Collège Sainte-Marie and McGill University. Robidoux was admitted to the Lower Canada bar in 1866 and set up practice at Montréal, practising with Thomas Fortin, Amédée Geoffrion and Cuthbert-Alphonse Chênevert. In 1878, he was named Queen's Counsel. Robidoux also taught law at McGill University, where he was professor emeritus from 1890 to 1928. Lower Canada
The Province of Lower Canada (french: province du Bas-Canada) was a British colony on the lower Saint Lawrence River and the shores of the Gulf of Saint Lawrence (1791–1841). It covered the southern portion of the current Province of Quebec and the Labrador region of the current Province of Newfoundland and Labrador (until the Labrador region was transferred to Newfoundland in 1809). Collège De Montréal
The Collège de Montréal is a subsidized private high school for students attending grades 7–11 located in downtown Montreal, Quebec, Canada. A former Roman Catholic minor seminary, it was founded on June 1, 1767 as the ''Petit Séminaire'' of Montreal by the Sulpician Fathers. From 1773 to 1803, it was known as ''Collège Saint-Raphaël''. In the mid-19th century a number of former students went on to become activists for First Nations and Métis rights. They included Mohawk chief Joseph Onasakenrat and Métis leader Louis Riel.
