Édgar Diminich
Édgar Diminich (born April 29, 1991) is a world class sailor from Ecuador. He began sailing Optimists and became Southamerican champion in 2004 when he was 12 years old. Two years later, in 2006, he won the bronze medal at the Optimist World Championship. Next, he was the Laser Radial Cressy Champion in Florida in 2008, the Laser National Champion in Ecuador in 2009, and he placed 4th in the Laser South Americans in Brazil in 2010. In 2012 he won the Snipe North American Championship as a crew of Raúl RÃos and in 2016 he won the Snipe Western Hemisphere & Orient Championship The Snipe Western Hemisphere and Asia Championship is an international sailing regatta in the Snipe class. The sport of sailing involves a variety of competitive sailing formats that are sanctioned through various sailing federations and yacht clubs. The Laser is a class of single-handed, one-design sailing dinghies using a common hull design with three interchangeable rigs of different sail areas, appropriate to a given combination of wind strength and crew weight. Bruce Kirby designed the Laser in 1970 with an emphasis on simplicity and performance. The Laser is a widely produced class of dinghies. As of 2018, there were more than 215,000 boats worldwide. It is an international class with sailors in 120 countries, and an Olympic class since 1996. Its wide acceptance is attributable to its robust construction, simple rig and ease of sailing that offer competitive racing due to tight class association controls which eliminate differences in hull, sails, and equipment. A laser is a device that emits light through a process of optical amplification based on the stimulated emission of electromagnetic radiation. Sunfish (sailboat)
The Sunfish is a personal-size, beach-launched sailing dinghy. It features a very flat, boardlike hull carrying an Oceanic lateen sail mounted to an un- stayed mast. Sunfish was developed by Alcort, Inc. and first appeared around 1952 as the "next generation" improvement on their original boat, the Sailfish. In contrast, the Sunfish has a wider beam for more stability, increased freeboard and the addition of a foot-well for a more comfortable sailing position. Sunfish began as a wood hull design and progressed to fiberglass construction just a few years after its introduction. Having a Lateen sail with its simple two line rigging makes a Sunfish simple to learn sailing on and to set up. Upgrades can be added to enhance sail control for competitive sailing, making the boat attractive to both novice and experienced sailors alike. Raúl Andrés RÃos de Choudens (born 3 December 1993 in Guaynabo, Puerto Rico), is a world class sailor in the Optimist, Snipe, and Lightning classes. He began sailing Optimists at the age of ten at the Club Náutico de San Juan, and became North American champion and World champion in 2008. From the Optimist class, he moved into the 420, Snipe and Lightning classes. He started sailing in the Snipe Class by crewing for Ernesto Rodriguez just after summer of 2008, training for the Western Hemisphere's championship in Uruguay that November where they finished third overall.
