Åssiden Idrettsforening (nicknamed "Åssia") is a Norwegian sports club from Drammen, Buskerud. It has sections for association football and handball, and skiing, previously also bandy. It was founded in 1937. Åssiden was a part of Lier at the time, but was later incorporated into Drammen municipality. The men's football team currently plays in 3. divisjon, the fourth tier of the Norwegian football league system, since their promotion from the 2019 4. divisjon. Norwegian Football League System
The Norwegian football league system, or pyramid, is a series of interconnected leagues for club football in Norway. 2017 system in men's football , the current national league system administered by the NFF is organised as 1–1–2–6, where Eliteserien is the highest level and the First Division the second tier, followed by two groups in the third tier ( Second Division) and 6 regional groups in the fourth tier ( Third Division). The leagues in the fifth tier ( Fourth Division) and below are regional divisions administered by the various regional football associations. The regional leagues mostly follow county borders. Lier, Norway
Lier is a municipality in Viken county, Norway. The administrative centre of the municipality is the village of Lierbyen. The municipality of Lier was established on 1 January 1838 (see formannskapsdistrikt). The area Ã…ssiden was transferred from Lier to the neighboring municipality of Drammen on 1 July 1951. Norway's longest indoor shopping center, Liertoppen, is located in Lierskogen. The newspaper '' Lierposten'' is published in Lier. Drammen
Drammen () is a city and municipality in Viken, Norway. The port and river city of Drammen is centrally located in the south-eastern and most populated part of Norway. Drammen municipality also includes smaller towns and villages such as Konnerud, Svelvik, Mjøndalen and Skoger. Location Drammen is located west of the Oslofjord and is situated approximately 44 km South-west of Oslo. Åssiden is the largest borough of Drammen in Buskerud county, Norway. Åssiden was a part of Lier municipality until 1951, when it became part of Drammen municipality. Åssiden is located on the western side of Drammen, north of the Drammenselva. Historically Åssiden was the location through which lumber was transported via Drammenselva into the city. Åssiden Elvepark is a park which was built on old landfill sites by the Drammenselva. Åssiden is the location of the vocational school, Åssiden Upper Secondary School (''Åssiden videregående skole''). Bandy
Bandy is a winter sport and ball sport played by two teams wearing ice skates on a large ice surface (either indoors or outdoors) while using sticks to direct a ball into the opposing team's goal. The international governing body for bandy is the Federation of International Bandy (FIB). The playing surface, called a bandy field or bandy rink, is a sheet of ice which measures 90–110 meters by 45–65 meters – about the size of a football pitch. The field is considerably larger than the ice rinks commonly used for ice hockey, rink bandy, or figure skating.
