Ásdís Hjálmsdóttir
Ásdís Hjálmsdóttir (born 28 October 1985) is an Icelandic former javelin thrower. Biography She represented her country at both 2008, 2012, and 2016 Olympic Games and has also competed at the 2006, 2010, 2012, 2014, 2016 European Championships and 2009, 2011, 2013, 2015 and 2017 World Championships. Her personal best is 63.43 metres, achieved on 12 July 2017 in Joensuu, Finland. She is the current Icelandic record holder. The 2003 European Athletics Junior Championships was held in Tampere, Finland from 23 to 27 July 2003. A total of 44 events were contested; 22 by men and 22 by women. Germany had the biggest medal haul with nine golds and a total of 26, closely followed by Russia (also 9 golds but 24 medals in total). The women's javelin throw at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 28 and 30 August. There were eight automatic qualifiers out of the first round. With the best mark qualifiers, the German team was able to get four into the finals including defending champion Christina Obergföll, the home team was able to get two when Lü Huihui got in with the tenth qualifier. World leader Sunette Viljoen also could not make the automatic but got into the finals while the world record holder Barbora Špotáková did get an automatic. The partisan locals were overjoyed when Lü took over the lead with a 63.80 and three throws later Li Lingwei improved upon that with a 64.10, putting the home team in first and second place. The women's javelin throw at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Luzhniki Stadium on 16–18 August. Throwing at home, defending champion and world leader Mariya Abakumova made one attempt in the trials. Her 69.09 flew past the automatic qualifying mark and turned out to be the farthest throw of the competition, leading ten other automatic qualifiers. In the final, Abakumova couldn't match her qualifier, though she did take the first round lead with 65.09. But that was to be her best. In the second round Kimberley Mickle threw a personal best 66.25 to take the lead. The lead lasted only 5 attempts before Christina Obergföll let loose a 69.05. The Women's javelin throw event at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Daegu Stadium on September 1 and 2. Barbora Špotáková, the reigning Olympic champion, topped the season's rankings with a throw of 69.45 m. Second-ranked Christina Obergföll had shown greater consistency, having won four of the Diamond League meetings before the championships.
