¡Basta Ya!
''¡Basta Ya!'' () was a Spanish grassroots organization uniting individuals of various political positions against terrorism and violence, notably ETA (separatist group), ETA, and against the proposal for a new Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country released by the government of President Juan José Ibarretxe. Its principal activities were anti-terror demonstrations and protests. The ¡Basta Ya! movement was a civic initiative made up of people of differing ideologies, and welcomes any citizens willing to play an active part provided they adhere to three basic principles: defend against terrorism of any sort, regardless of origin or intensity, support all victims of terrorism or of political violence and defend the rule of law, the Spanish Constitution and the Statute of Autonomy of the Basque Country. ¡Basta Ya! was created to promote social mobilization against the perpetrators of specific kinds of violence, to support those who are suffering from them, and to demand that a ... Carmen Iglesias
María del Carmen Iglesias Cano, 1st Countess of Gisbert, is a Spanish historian. She is the Director of the Real Academia de la Historia. In this role she has been responsible for the launch of the electronic version of Spain´s dictionary of national biography, the '' Diccionario biográfico español''. She is also a member of the Royal Spanish Academy, which regulates the Spanish language. Terrorism in Spain has been committed by various groups and people. History There have been several phases of terrorism in Spain. Spain was notably affected by a broader wave of anarchist terrorism that started in the late 19th century in Europe in connection to the notion of propaganda of the deed. Several of the perpetrators acting in Spain, such as Michele Angiolillo, Thioulouze, Tomás Ascheri or Girault, were actually foreign. Some of the terrorist attacks in this period include the 1893 Liceo bomb, the 1896 Corpus Christi bomb, or the magnicide of Cánovas del Castillo in 1897. The botched assassination in Madrid of King Alfonso XIII at the Calle Mayor during his wedding left 33 casualties and many wounded. The Basque Country or Basque Autonomous Community (), also officially called Euskadi (), is an autonomous community in northern Spain.
