.22 Accelerator
The .22 Accelerator is a special loading of the .30-30, .308, and .30-06 cartridges that is manufactured by Remington. Description It consists of a sub-caliber diameter bullet, held in a .30-caliber six-fingered plastic sabot with a hollowed base. The bullet separates from the sabot approximately from the muzzle. Usage The cartridge allows for using a large-caliber rifle for varmint shooting, although the accuracy is somewhat diminished. The .30-06 Springfield cartridge (weaponry), cartridge (pronounced "thirty-Names for the number 0 in English, aught-six" ), 7.62×63mm in metric notation, and called the .30 Gov't '06 by Winchester, was introduced to the United States Army in 1906 and later standardization, standardized; it remained in military use until the late 1970s. Sabot (firearms)
A sabot (, ) is a supportive device used in firearm/artillery ammunitions to fit/patch around a projectile, such as a bullet/slug or a flechette-like projectile (such as a kinetic energy penetrator), and keep it aligned in the center of the barrel when fired. It allows a narrower projectile with high sectional density to be fired through a barrel of much larger bore diameter with maximal accelerative transfer of kinetic energy.
