History

Prior to suburbanization, North Bay Shore consisted of numerous farms. In 1972, a small airplane made an emergency landing in North Bay Shore. The plane, a

resident Joseph Krzywonos, suffered from a motor failure when on approach to the former Deer Park Airport, and Krzywonos was unable to restart the motor. The plane soon hit a tree and power lines, before spinning and coming to a halt in the driveway of 18 Chimney Lane. Although the plane was destroyed, the cars in the driveway were damaged, and the home's power and windows were knocked out by the impact, nobody was hurt in the incident.

The racial makeup of the CDP was 48.49% White, 18.82% African American, 0.63% Native American, 2.04% Asian, 0.08% Pacific Islander, 23.29% from other races, and 6.66% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 50.75% of the population. There were 3,794 households, out of which 45.5% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 59.4% were married couples living together, 18.2% had a female householder with no husband present, and 15.1% were non-families. 10.4% of all households were made up of individuals, and 3.7% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 3.95 and the average family size was 3.98. In the CDP, the population was spread out, with 29.7% under the age of 18, 11.0% from 18 to 24, 33.7% from 25 to 44, 18.6% from 45 to 64, and 6.9% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 31 years. For every 100 females, there were 101.5 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 98.2 males.
