Simpelveld
Simpelveld (; li, Zumpelveld ) is a municipality and a town in the southeastern Netherlands. It is part of the municipal cooperative unit Parkstad Limburg. Simpelveld is part of the ''Mergelland'', named after the presence of chalk (mergel), hill country popular with tourists. The Mergellandroute passes through the town. The population centre of Simpelveld has 28 national monuments, amongst which are the Oude Molen and the Saint Remigius Church. Simpelveld has a heritage railway station and is the home base of the South Limburg Railway Company. On one weekend in October there is a Day out with Thomas from the children's television series Thomas and Friends. Saint Remigius Church
The Saint Remigius Church (Dutch: ''Sint-Remigiuskerk'') is a Roman Catholic church building in Simpelveld, The Netherlands. It is a neoroman cross shaped church with three naves, a tower with a waisted top, and a round apse. It is completely made up out of Kunradersteen, a local variant of chalk. The building is used as parish church for the local Saint Remigius parish. Patron saint for the church is Saint Remigius. Due to the inventory of the church, it has been listed as a rijksmonument, making it a national heritage site of the Netherlands. History The first mention of a church in Simpelveld dates from 1147. In this period Simpelveld was part of the diocese of Liège. First mention of the church being linked to Saint Remigius dates from 1203. Huls, Netherlands
Huls ( Limburgish: ''De Huls'') is a hamlet in the southeastern Netherlands. It is part of the municipality of Simpelveld in the province of Limburg, about 20 km east of Maastricht. The village lies on a hill, north of Simpelveld, and south of Ubachsberg. In 2008 the village had a population of 350 on an area of 0.44 km2. On the hillside south of Huls lies Hulsveld, a hamlet sharing the same name with a population of 1630. List Of Mayors Of Simpelveld
This is a list of mayors of Simpelveld, Netherlands. In 1794 the Southern Netherlands were occupied by France and eventually annexed on 1 October 1795. By law of 22 August 1795 the region was divided into municipalités de canton. All villages with less than 5000 citizens were to become part of bigger cantons. Simpelveld became part of the canton Rolduc. Within the canton it was allowed to choose its own agent municipal and adjoint. In 1800 this system was abandoned and Simpelveld got its own government again with its own maire (mayor). After the fall of the First French Empire Simpelveld became part of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands. On 14 February 1818, by royal decree 95, a system of government for municipalities was introduced and Simpelveld got a schout (scout). Bosschenhuizen ( Limburgish: ''Busjehoêze'') is a hamlet in the southeastern Netherlands. It is part of the municipality of Simpelveld in the province of Limburg, about 20 km east of Maastricht. The village lies southeast of Trintelen and west of Simpelveld. In 2016, the village had an estimated population of 80. Oude Molen, Simpelveld
The Oude Molen (English:''Old Mill'') or Molen van Houben (English: ''Houben's Mill'') is a watermill located on the Oude Molenweg 6 in Simpelveld, Netherlands. Build in 1774 along the Eyserbeek river, the watermill functioned as gristmill until the 1960s. During this time it was restored several times. In 1960 the mill stopped functioning, and a year later the land upstream was disowned by the local government. Currently it functions as housing. The mill is a national monument (nr 33593). Of the original mill only the millhouse and the iron breastshot water wheel, with corresponding flume, remain. Bocholtz (; Ripuarian: is a town in the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Simpelveld, and lies about 7 km southwest of Kerkrade. Until 1982, it was a separate municipality. History Bocholtz dates back to the Roman era. A Roman villa was found in the Vlengendaal, a street of Bocholtz, in 1911.
