Scunthorpe () is an industrial town and unparished area in the unitary authority of North Lincolnshire in Lincolnshire, England of which it is the main administrative centre. Scunthorpe had an estimated total population of 82,334 in 2016. A predominantly industrial town, the town is the United Kingdom's largest steel processing centre and is also known as the "Industrial Garden Town". It is the third largest settlement in Lincolnshire, after Lincoln and Grimsby. The Member of Parliament for Scunthorpe is Conservative politician Holly Mumby-Croft. History Scunthorpe as a town came into existence due to the exploitation of the local ironstone resources, and subsequent formation of iron works from the 1850s onwards. Scunthorpe is a constituency represented in the House of Commons of the UK Parliament since 2019 by Holly Mumby-Croft, a member of the Conservative Party, when she gained the seat from the Labour Party. Holly Mumby-Croft
Holly Mumby-Croft (born July 1985) is a British Conservative Party politician, serving as the Member of Parliament (MP) for Scunthorpe since 2019. Early life Mumby-Croft was born in Scunthorpe. She attended Sir John Nelthorpe School in Brigg and Brigg Sixth-Form College followed by reading English and History at Lincoln University. Political career Prior to her election as an MP, Mumby-Croft was elected as a councillor for the Broughton and Appleby ward on North Lincolnshire Council in 2015, and was re-elected in May 2019 but subsequently stood down upon being elected to Parliament. Mumby-Croft stood in Scunthorpe at the 2017 general election, and came second. She stood again at the 2019 general election, and defeated the incumbent Labour MP Nic Dakin, winning with a 17.1% majority. This represented a 12.8% swing from Labour to Conservative. Brumby, Lincolnshire
Frodingham was a hamlet in Lincolnshire which has grown into a suburb of Scunthorpe, North Lincolnshire. Although the village lay directly to the south of what is now Scunthorpe town centre, the name Frodingham is now often used to refer to the area directly to the north of the town centre. Frodingham parish originally included the townships of Frodingham, Scunthorpe, Brumby, Crosby (part) and Gunness (part). The townships became civil parishes in 1866. In 1894 Brumby & Frodingham Urban District Council (UDC) was formed, separate from neighbouring Scunthorpe UDC. Brumby & Frodingham UDC was amalgamated with Scunthorpe in 1919. St Lawrence's church was the centre of the original hamlet of Frodingham. North Lincolnshire is a unitary authority area in Lincolnshire, England, with a population of 167,446 in the 2011 census. Bottesford is a town in North Lincolnshire, Lincolnshire, England. Historically a village, Bottesford forms a contiguous urban area of Scunthorpe. In the 2001 Census, Bottesford's population was recorded as 11,171, falling to 11,038 at the 2011 census. In England, an unparished area is an area that is not covered by a civil parish (the lowest level of local government, not to be confused with an ecclesiastical parish). Most urbanised districts of England are either entirely or partly unparished. Many towns and some cities in otherwise rural districts are also unparished areas and therefore no longer have a town council or city council, and are instead directly managed by a higher local authority such as a district or county council.
