Battlelore
Battlelore are a Finnish heavy metal band from Lappeenranta, founded in 1999 by guitarist Jyri Vahvanen and bassist Miika Kokkola. The name derives from the union of the words 'battle' and 'folklore'. Many of Battlelore's lyrics concern J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth sagas and their stage costumes and live shows are largely inspired by the themes and characters of fantasy literature. The band had many changes of personnel during their twelve years of activity and had a long hiatus after the completion of the tour supporting their latest release ''Doombound'' in 2011. In January 2016 they announced that they would be performing at Metal Female Voices Fest XIII in October 2016. Third Age Of The Sun
''Third Age of the Sun'' is the third studio album released by the Finnish heavy metal band Battlelore, released in 2005. As on previous albums, the songs are all based on J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth sagas. This album introduced new bass player Timo Honkanen and new vocalist Tomi Mykkänen, who had previously toured with the band when Miika Kokkola and Patrik Mennander had been unavailable. The sound of the album differs from the first two Battlelore albums, as the instrumentation has a more live and organic feel and also due to the absence of clean male vocals. The album peaked at position 38 in The Official Finnish Charts. ''Evernight'' is the fourth studio album by the Finnish heavy metal band Battlelore, released in 2007. As previously, the songs are all based on J. R. R. Tolkien's Middle-earth. Overall the sound of the album was darker and denser than the band's earlier releases with a much thicker and heavier guitar sound. The album also was more consistent in sound with less variation between songs to present a more cohesive piece of work. In this album the band choose not to use names and direct references to Tolkien's legendarium to make the lyrics accessible to a broader audience. ''Sword's Song'' is the second studio album released by the Finnish heavy metal band Battlelore, released in 2003. As with all of the band's other albums, the lyrics are based on J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth sagas. ''Sword's Songs music and lyrics are essentially similar to those of their debut album, but in the opinion of most reviewers and fans showed an improvement in both strength of the material and quality of the performances. ''...Where the Shadows Lie'' is the first full-length album by the Finnish heavy metal band Battlelore, released in 2002. The album received good reviews and gained the band a loyal fan base. No singles were released from the album, although a video was filmed for the song "Journey to Undying Lands", used to promote the band throughout Europe. After the release of this album in 2002, guitarist Tommi Havo had to leave the band due to personal reasons and was replaced by Jussi Rautio. The album cover features an image of Morgoth, painted by Ted Nasmith in 1998, titled “Morgoth and High King of Noldor” (used with permission). Patrik Mennander
Patrik Mennander (born 8 January 1976) is a Finland, Finnish singer who has been in the bands Ruoska, Battlelore and Natsipaska. Short biography Mennander was born in Finland in 1976. He was in the Finnish army (the year he entered is unknown) until 1997. A year later, in 1998, he then created the comic/hard rock band Natsipaska with Anssi Auvinen, Mika Kamppi and Sami Karppinen. The band released three albums before retiring in 2000. Then, in 2002, with a guitarist, Kai Ahvenranta, Ruoska was started. Although Ruoska is still an ongoing band, Patrik Mennander has not been there every single step of the way, since he left for the symphonic metal band Battlelore from end 2003 to near-end 2004, between the releases of Ruoska's second and third albums. Since then, Mennander has stayed with Ruoska, and is best known as singer of Ruoska. Mennander is also a tattoo artist at "His Master's Tattoo" in Mikkeli, Finland. Metal Female Voices Fest
Metal Female Voices Fest was a heavy metal music festival dedicated to female vocalists, held annually in the Oktoberhallen in Wieze, Belgium from 2003 to 2016. It was organized by the ''Metal Organisation'', which later changed into "2 Wild 4 agency". The festival enables smaller and unknown bands within the female fronted genre to perform on a big stage beside bigger and more famous bands. Over the years, they gave away special awards or organized a warm-up which allowed bands to compete to perform on the festival for the next year. On 13 February 2017, it was announced that the Metal Female Voices Fest is put on indefinite hold. On 10 December 2018, it has been confirmed that a Japanese edition of MFVF will take place in Osaka and Tokyo in April 2019. In 2020, the official website of the Metal Female Voices Fest went dead. Napalm Records is an Austrian independent record label focused on heavy metal and hard rock.
