GFriend (stylized in all caps; ) was a South Korean girl group formed by Source Music in 2015. The group consisted of six members: Sowon, Yerin, Eunha, Yuju, SinB, and Umji. They debuted with the extended play (EP) '' Season of Glass'' on January 15, 2015 and won several female rookie awards, garnering momentum early on despite being from a small company. GFriend continued their commercial success the next year with their third EP, ''Snowflake'', whose lead single " Rough" won first place on numerous music shows. They released their first studio album, ''LOL'', in 2016 as well. In 2017, GFriend returned with their fourth EP, ''The Awakening'', for which pre-orders exceeded 100,000 copies. Umji
Kim Ye-won (; born August 19, 1998), better known by her stage name Umji (), is a South Korean singer and dancer. She is a former member of the girl group GFriend, and a current member of the trio Viviz. Early life Umji was born on August 19, 1998, in Incheon, South Korea and is the youngest daughter of her family (one older brother and one older sister). Her father is dentist and chairman of a famous dental corporation in South Korea. Umji went to English preschool and graduated from Shinsong Middle School, Incheon. She graduated from the School of Performing Arts Seoul (SOPA - Theater Department) in February 2017, along with her groupmate, SinB. ''Parallel'' (stylized in all caps) is the fifth extended play (EP) by South Korean girl group GFriend. The EP was released digitally and physically by Source Music on August 1, 2017 and distributed by LOEN Entertainment. The album contains eight songs, including the single "Love Whisper", and one instrumental track. It has sold over 60,000 physical copies as of August 2017. The extended play was re-released on September 13 under the title ''Rainbow'' with the single " Summer Rain" and a bonus track of the same name.
