The Mule (Foundation)
The Mule is a fictional character in the Foundation (book series), ''Foundation'' series by Isaac Asimov. First appearing in the 1945 novella "The Mule (novella), The Mule", he is a Mutant (fiction), mutant and telepath who seizes control of the galaxy as a dictator after the fall of the Galactic Empire (Asimov), Galactic Empire. Though he conquers the Foundation, his obsession with destroying the Second Foundation proves to be his undoing in the 1948 novella "Now You See It... (novella), Now You See It...". The Mule is voiced by Wolfe Morris in the 1973 BBC Radio 4 adaptation ''The Foundation Trilogy (BBC Radio), The Foundation Trilogy''. He is portrayed by Mikael Persbrandt in season two of the 2021 Apple TV+ television series adaptation ''Foundation (TV series), Foundation'', and will be played by Pilou Asbæk in season three. Michael Whelan (born June 29, 1950) is an Americans, American artist of imaginative Realism (arts), realism. For more than 30 years, he worked as an illustrator, specializing in science fiction and fantasy cover art. Since the mid-1990s, he has pursued a fine art career, selling non-commissioned paintings through contemporary art gallery, galleries in the United States and through his website. ''Analog Science Fiction and Fact'' is an American science fiction magazine published under various titles since 1930. Originally titled ''Astounding Stories of Super-Science'', the first issue was dated January 1930, published by William Clayton, and edited by Harry Bates. Clayton went bankrupt in 1933 and the magazine was sold to Street & Smith. The new editor was F. Orlin Tremaine, who soon made ''Astounding'' the leading magazine in the nascent pulp science fiction field, publishing well-regarded stories such as Jack Williamson's '' Legion of Space'' and John W. Hari Seldon is a fictional character in the ''Foundation'' series of novels by Isaac Asimov. In his capacity as mathematics professor at Streeling University on the planet Trantor, Seldon develops psychohistory, an algorithmic science that allows him to predict the future in probabilistic terms. On the basis of his psychohistory he is able to predict the eventual fall of the Galactic Empire and to develop a means to shorten the millennia of chaos to follow. ''Second Foundation'' is the third novel published of the ''Foundation'' Series by American writer Isaac Asimov, and the fifth in the in-universe chronology. It was first published in 1953 by Gnome Press. ''Second Foundation'' consists of two previously published novellas originally published in '' Astounding Magazine'' (with different titles) between 1948 and 1950: this makes it the third volume in Asimov's ''Foundation'' series.
