Siren Whistle
The Acme siren is a musical instrument used in concert bands for comic effect. Often used in cartoons, it produces the stylized sound of a police siren. It is one of the few aerophones in the percussion section of an orchestra. The instrument is typically made of metal and is cylindrical. Inside the cylinder is a type of fan-blade which, when the performer blows through one end, spins and creates the sound. The faster the performer blows, the faster the fan-blade moves and the higher the pitch the instrument creates. Conversely, the slower the performer blows, the lower the pitch. Iannis Xenakis used it in the 1960s in his works ''Oresteia'', ''Terretektorh'', and '' Persephassa''. A siren was used in Bob Dylan's classic album, ''Highway 61 Revisited''. One is also heard in Stevie Wonder's song "Sir Duke" just before the second chorus, and in Supertramp's song "The Logical Song" immediately after the final chorus. Sir Duke
"Sir Duke" is a song composed and performed by Stevie Wonder from his 1976 album '' Songs in the Key of Life''. Released as a single in 1977, the track topped the U.S. ''Billboard'' Hot 100 and Black Singles charts, and reached number two in the UK Singles Chart, his joint biggest hit there at the time. ''Billboard'' ranked it as the No. 18 song of 1977. The song was written in tribute to Duke Ellington, the influential jazz legend who had died in 1974. An unpitched percussion instrument is a percussion instrument played in such a way as to produce sounds of indeterminate pitch, or an instrument normally played in this fashion. Unpitched percussion is typically used to maintain a rhythm or to provide accents, and its sounds are unrelated to the melody and harmony of the music. Within the orchestra, unpitched percussion is termed auxiliary percussion, and this subsection of the percussion section includes all unpitched instruments of the orchestra however they are played, for example the pea whistle and siren. Daniel Edgerly Zanes (born November 8, 1961) is an American rock, folk, and children's musician. He was a member of the 1980s band the Del Fuegos, the frontman of the group Dan Zanes and Friends, and currently performs with his wife, Claudia Eliaza Zanes, as Dan + Claudia. Supertramp were a British rock band formed in London in 1970. Marked by the individual songwriting of founders Roger Hodgson (vocals, keyboards and guitars) and Rick Davies (vocals and keyboards), the group were distinguished for blending progressive rock and pop styles.
