Orange-bellied Frog
''Anstisia vitellina'', commonly known as the orange-bellied frog, is a species of frog in the family Myobatrachidae. It is endemic to a 20 hectare area near Margaret River, Western Australia, Margaret River in Southwest Australia. It is Vulnerable species, vulnerable to extinction due to fire and the destruction of habitat caused by feral pigs. Taxonomy It was formerly classified in the genus ''Geocrinia'', but was reclassified into the new genus ''Anstisia'' in 2022. Description ''G. vitellina'' is very similar in appearance to the Anstisia alba, white-bellied frog (''A. alba''); having spots of dark brown on a light brown or grey back, with has a snout–vent length of 17–24 mm."Hosmer's frog, Cophixalus hosmeri (SVL = 17 mm) and Geocrinia vitelline (SVL = 18 mm), with mean clutch sizes of only 6 and 11 eggs, respectively." Witchcliffe
Witchcliffe is a small town in the South West region of Western Australia, located a few kilometres south of Margaret River on the Bussell Highway. The name originates from a cave in the area, Witchcliffe cave, that was recorded by a surveyor in 1900. It is believed the name was given by the Bussell family whose property, Wallcliffe, was established in the area in the 1850s. History In 1924 the government extended the Flinders Bay railway line to Witchcliffe. The siding was to be named Narawary but a post office already existed at the site with the name Witchcliffe, having opened in 1923, so the siding was named Witchcliffe in 1925. The Amphibians of Western Australia are represented by two families of frogs. Of the 78 species found, most within the southwest, 38 are unique to the state. 15 of the 30 genera of Australian frogs occur; from arid regions and coastlines to permanent wetlands. Frog species in Western Australia have not suffered the major declines of populations and diversity of many parts of the world. No species is recorded as having become extinct, despite over 50% of recent worldwide extinctions being Australian.
