IPod Games
An iPod click wheel game or iPod game is a video game playable on the various versions of the Apple portable media player, the iPod. The original iPod had the game ''Brick'' (originally invented by Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak) included as an easter egg hidden feature; later firmware versions added it as a menu option. Later revisions of the iPod added three more games in addition to ''Brick'': ''Parachute'', ''Solitaire'', and ''Music Quiz''. Apple later offered iPod games for sale through the iTunes store. These games should not be confused with games for the iPod Touch, which require iOS and are only available on Apple's App Store. ''Cubis 2'' is a puzzle video game that was released in 2004 by FreshGames. In ''Cubis 2'', the player shoots different colored cubes into cubes that are already placed on the isometric game table. Once three of the same color are matched in a row or are stacked, the cubes disappear and the player earns points. Once the board is clear or enough points are earned, the player advances to the next board which features a new animated backdrop. Cubis game series In 2002 the game ''Cubis'' was released in a Java version playable in web browsers. It was later updated into a Flash version. Sudoku (; ; originally called Number Place) is a logic puzzle, logic-based, combinatorics, combinatorial number-placement puzzle. ''Zuma'' is a 2003 tile-matching puzzle video game developed and published by PopCap Games. It was released for a number of platforms, including PDAs, mobile phones, and the iPod. ''Vortex'' is an iPod game created by Apple Inc. and Kabloom Games. It is an Arkanoid/ Breakout clone with a top-down perspective and bricks arranged in a circular layout controlled by a click wheel History On Tuesday, January 30, 2007, Apple introduced a demo version of this game for free. It includes two sample levels. They have since removed the demo. Vortex is currently one of the only games compatible with all the iPods able to play games (shipped with the iPod Nanos and Classics). Gameplay Vortex is similar to Arkanoid/ Breakout, in which players use a ball to destroy bricks. However, the bricks are arranged along the inside of a cylinder, with every level having unique design themes. ''Pac-Man,'' originally called in Japan, is a 1980 maze video game developed and published by Namco for arcades. In North America, the game was released by Midway Manufacturing as part of its licensing agreement with Namco America. The player controls Pac-Man, who must eat all the dots inside an enclosed maze while avoiding four colored ghosts. Eating large flashing dots called "Power Pellets" causes the ghosts to temporarily turn blue, allowing Pac-Man to also eat the ghosts for bonus points. Game development began in early 1979, led by Toru Iwatani with a nine-man team. Iwatani wanted to create a game that could appeal to women as well as men, because most video games of the time had themes that appealed to traditionally masculine interests, such as war or sports.
