Avey Tare
David Michael Portner (born April 24, 1979), also known by his moniker Avey Tare, is a musician and songwriter who co-founded the American experimental pop band Animal Collective. He has released four solo albums, as well as four collaborative albums with Panda Bear (Noah Lennox) three of which were later retroactively classified under Animal Collective's discography. Animal Collective Portner met Animal Collective's Deakin (Josh Dibb), Panda Bear (Noah Lennox), and Geologist (Brian Weitz) in high school. For years, the four of them swapped homemade recordings, shared musical ideas and performed in different group configurations. Portner recorded the '' Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished'' album with Lennox, and initially released the recording on the band's own Animal label in 1999. Domino Recording Company, or simply Domino, is a British independent record label based in London. There is also a wing of the label based in Brooklyn, New York that handles releases in the United States, as well as a German division called Domino Deutschland and a French division called Domino France. In addition, Stephen Pastel presides over the subsidiary label Geographic Music, which releases more 'unusual' music from Britain and outside of the Western world. In 2011, the company announced that it was beginning a book publishing division, The Domino Press. ''Cows on Hourglass Pond'' is the third solo studio album by American musician Avey Tare. It was released on March 22, 2019, by Domino Recording Company. The album follows 2017's ''Eucalyptus'' and was supported by a tour. Its announcement was accompanied by the release of the video for "Saturdays (Again)", directed by Avey Tare's sister, Abby Portner. Recording The album was recorded directly onto a TASCAM 48 half-inch reel-to-reel tape machine at Laughing Gas studio in Asheville, North Carolina, from January to March 2018. It was mixed by Portner and Adam McDaniel at Drop of Sun Studios, in Asheville, NC.
