"The Greater Good" is the 21st episode of the first season of '' Lost''. The episode was directed by David Grossman and written by Leonard Dick. It first aired on May 4, 2005, on ABC. The character of Sayid Jarrah ( Naveen Andrews) is featured in the episode's flashbacks. Plot Flashbacks Arrested at Heathrow Airport on trumped-up terrorism charges, Sayid is recruited as an informant by the Australian Secret Intelligence Service and the CIA, who ask him to infiltrate a terrorist cell in Sydney of which his old friend Essam is a member. After they explain that they know where Nadia is, he agrees. It is revealed that after helping her escape several years ago, Sayid left Iraq and has been travelling the world trying to find her ever since. Sayid flies to Sydney and infiltrates the terrorist cell, telling the agents that Essam is in over his head, and that he can bring him in. ''The Greater Good'' is an anti-vaccination propaganda film. It debuted at the Dallas International Film Festival on April 2, 2011, and began playing in Los Angeles, California on October 14, 2011. The film was endorsed by controversial doctor Joseph Mercola on his website, as part of "Vaccine Awareness Week", a joint venture with the anti-vaccine organization National Vaccine Information Center. The conjecture presented in the movie that vaccines might cause autism is not supported by scientific evidence, and originated in a fraudulent research paper. Critical reception The ''New York Times'' criticized the movie, calling it "emotionally manipulative," and "heavily partial." ''The Greater Good, or the Passion of Boule de Suif'' is an opera in two acts by contemporary American composer Stephen Hartke, with an English libretto by Philip Littell, based on the short story Boule de Suif by Guy de Maupassant. It was commissioned by the Glimmerglass Opera, and premiered on 22 July 2006 at Glimmerglass, in Cooperstown, New York. Synopsis The opera is set in 1871, at the end of the Franco-Prussian War. In Act I, a group of French citizens flee Rouen, which has been occupied by the Prussians, travelling to Le Havre in a stagecoach. The prostitute Boule de Suif is initially snubbed by all of the other, more "proper" passengers. However, Boule is the only one to have planned ahead for the trip and brought a basket of food.
