Armenians ( hy, հայեր, '' hayer'' ) are an ethnic group native to the Armenian highlands of Western Asia. Armenians constitute the main population of Armenia and the ''de facto'' independent Artsakh. Olive Zorian
Olive Nevart Zorian (16 March 1916 in Manchester – 17 May 1965 in London) was an English classical violinist. She was the youngest daughter of Samuel Hovannes Zorian and Ada Mary Zorian. Samuel was an Armenian hosiery manufacturer and musician from Diyarbakir, Southeastern Anatolia, Turkey, who had been imprisoned by the Turkish authorities in the 1890s as a political activist, and who thereafter relocated to Manchester, England. The family settled in Manchester and were prominent cotton merchant businessmen. Ada (née Rushton) came from Birmingham. Stepan Zorian
Stepan Zorian (Armenian: Ստեփան Զօրեան, 1867–1919), better known by his '' nom de guerre'' Rostom (), was one of the three founders of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation and a leader of the Armenian national liberation movement. Founding of the ARF Zorian was born in the village of Tsghna in the Erivan Governorate of the Russian Empire (now located in the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic of Azerbaijan). He attended college in Moscow but dropped out before graduating. He eventually went to Tiflis, Georgia, where he met Christapor Mikaelian and Simon Zavarian, all would become revolutionaries. They co-founded the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) in 1890. Their new political party had a major impact on Armenians. It gained support by demanding reforms and taking up arms to defend Armenian citizens of the Ottoman Empire. Stepan Zoryan
Stepan Yeghiayi Zoryan ( hy, Ստեփան Եղիայի Զորյան, born Stepan Yeghiayi Arakelyan; September 16, 1890 – October 14, 1967) was a Soviet Armenian writer. Biography Stepan Zoryan (real surname Arakelyan) was born in 1890 to a peasant family in the small town of Karakilisa (modern-day Vanadzor) in the Erivan Governorate of the Russian Empire. As a child he first studied in a small private school before enrolling in the local Russian school, from which he graduated in 1904. In 1906, he left for Tiflis, hoping to enter the Nersisian Armenian school. However, his difficult financial situation forced him to work as a proofreader at a printing house, and then as a translator for the Armenian newspaper ''Surhandak'' ("Messenger"). From 1912 to 1919, he worked as a translator and stylist for the newspaper ''Mshak'' ("Laborer"). Zorian Quartet
The Zorian Quartet was an English all-female string quartet ensemble. It was founded in 1942 by and named after violinist Olive Zorian. It gave the premiere performances of, and made the first recordings of, several compositions for string quartet by English composers, including Benjamin Britten and Michael Tippett. It also gave the premiere English performances of quartets by Ernest Bloch and Béla Bartók. The original members were Olive Zorian (191665, violin I); Marjorie Lavers (violin II); Winifred Copperwheat (190576, viola); and Norina Semino (cello). Some sources say that the quartet disbanded in 1949. Other sources say that it continued to perform for at least another ten years. The later date is supported by evidence that the violinist Frances Mason and the cellist Eleanor Warren were members of the Zorian Quartet in the 1950s.
