Zlín Z XIII
Zlín (in 1949–1989 Gottwaldov; ; german: Zlin) is a city in the Czech Republic. It has about 73,000 inhabitants. It is the seat of the Zlín Region and it lies on the Dřevnice river. It is known as an industrial centre. The development of the modern city is closely connected to the Bata Shoes company and its social scheme, developed after the World War I. A large part of the city is urbanistically and architecturally valuable and is protected by law as an Cultural monument (Czech Republic)#Monument zones, urban monument zone. Statutory City (Czech Republic)
In the Czech Republic, a statutory city ( cs, statutární město) is a municipal corporation that has been granted city status by Act of Parliament. It is more prestigious than the simple title ' ("town"), which can be awarded by the cabinet and chair of the Chamber of Deputies to a municipality which applies for it. Differences of statutory city Statutory city status is partially ceremonial; the mayor is called ', rather than the ' of other municipalities. Statutory cities are allowed to subdivide into self-governing city boroughs (sg. ' or city parts ') with their own elected councils; such a statutory city has to issue a statute (') that delimits power to boroughs. As of 2022 only seven statutory cities have done so. Cities Brno, Plzeň, Ústí nad Labem and Pardubice are divided into city boroughs, and Liberec has only one city borough with rest of the city being administered directly.
