Pfl RNA Motif
The ''pfl'' RNA motif (now called the ZMP/ZTP riboswitch) refers to a conserved RNA structure present in some bacteria and originally discovered using bioinformatics. ''pfl'' RNAs are consistently present in genomic locations that likely correspond to the 5' untranslated regions (5' UTRs) of protein-coding genes. This arrangement in bacteria is commonly associated with cis-regulatory elements. Moreover, they are in presumed 5' UTRs of multiple non- homologous genes, suggesting that they function only in these locations. Additional evidence of ''cis''-regulatory function came from the observation that predicted rho-independent transcription terminators overlap ''pfl'' RNAs. This overlap suggests that the alternate secondary structures of ''pfl'' RNA and the transcription terminator stem-loops compete with each other, and this is a common mechanism for ''cis'' gene control in bacteria. ''pfl'' RNAs are found in a variety of phyla of bacteria, but are not found in all th ...

Provisioning (telecommunications)
In telecommunication, provisioning involves the process of preparing and equipping a network to allow it to provide new services to its users. In National Security/Emergency Preparedness telecommunications services, ''"provisioning"'' equates to ''"initiation"'' and includes altering the state of an existing priority service or capability. The concept of network provisioning or service mediation, mostly used in the telecommunication industry, refers to the provisioning of the customer's services to the network elements, which are various equipment connected in that network communication system. Generally in telephony provisioning this is accomplished with network management database table mappings. It requires the existence of networking equipment and depends on network planning and design. In a modern signal infrastructure employing information technology (IT) at all levels, there is no possible distinction between telecommunications services and "higher level" infrastructure. ...

Zero-truncated Poisson Distribution
In probability theory, the zero-truncated Poisson (ZTP) distribution is a certain discrete probability distribution whose support is the set of positive integers. This distribution is also known as the conditional Poisson distribution or the positive Poisson distribution. It is the conditional probability distribution of a Poisson-distributed random variable, given that the value of the random variable is not zero. Thus it is impossible for a ZTP random variable to be zero. Consider for example the random variable of the number of items in a shopper's basket at a supermarket checkout line. Presumably a shopper does not stand in line with nothing to buy (i.e., the minimum purchase is 1 item), so this phenomenon may follow a ZTP distribution. Since the ZTP is a truncated distribution with the truncation stipulated as , one can derive the probability mass function from a standard Poisson distribution ) as follows: : g(k;\lambda) = P(X = k \mid X > 0) = \frac = \frac = \fra ...
