Zonhoven
Zonhoven (; ) is a municipality located in the middle of the Belgian province of Limburg located north of Hasselt and also borders Houthalen-Helechteren, Genk and Heusden-Zolder. It’s an urbanized municipality, in the edge area of Hasselt. The municipality belongs to the On January 1, 2019, Zonhoven had a total population of 21,237. The total area is 39.34 km2 which gives a population density of 506 inhabitants per km2. Archaeological findings from the period 11,000 BCE to 5,000 BCE, including the only fixed prehistoric polishing stone in Flanders, indicate early inhabitation of the territory. From the Middle Ages to the early modern period, Zonhoven and its neighboring villages belonged to the Land of Vogelsanck. Treaty Of Zonhoven
The Treaty of Zonhoven was signed in Zonhoven on November 18, 1833, between representatives of the United Kingdom of the Netherlands and Belgium. The accord altered an agreement made during the Convention of London (May 21, 1833) whereby navigation of the rivers Scheldt and Meuse would remain free and open. However, the convention did not establish a definitive treaty, and Belgium owed dues to the Netherlands for its use of the Scheldt. Luc Indestege was born in Zonhoven on 5 February 1901 and died in Brussels on 11 July 1974. He was a Dutch-speaking Belgian poet and prose writer. Life Indestege studied Germanic philology at the Catholic University of Louvain and obtained his doctorate in 1925 based on his thesis about Henriette Roland Holst. He began his career as a teacher at the Athénée royal de Bruxelles (Collegium Theresianum) and then became a teaching assistant for the Dutch language at the University of Padua between 1952 and 1956. Luc Gilbert Cyrille Nilis (born 25 May 1967) is a Belgian professional football manager and former player who is the striker coach of Patro Eisden. Zornik is a Belgian rock music, rock band. It was formed in 1999 by singer and guitarist Koen Buyse, drummer Marijn Horemans and bass guitarist Kristof Vanduren. History The band made it in 1999 to the finals of HUMO's Rock Rally rock contest, under the name Zornik Breknov. There, the band was spotted by Parlophone Belgium and MTC Management. Roel Paulissen (born 27 April 1976 in Hasselt) is a Belgian former professional mountain biker. Throughout his sporting career since 1993, he has won more than ten Belgian national championship titles, mounted top-five finishes at both the European and World Cup series, and claimed a total of four medals, including two golds, in men's cross-country race at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships. Paulissen also represented his nation Belgium in four editions of the Olympic Games (1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008), where he competed in men's mountain biking since it officially became an Olympic sport in 1996.
