Yvan Loubier
Yvan Loubier (born April 10, 1959 in Montreal, Quebec) is a Canadian politician and one of the founders of the Bloc Québécois. He was a Bloc Québécois member of the House of Commons of Canada representing the district of Saint-Hyacinthe—Bagot, from the since he was first elected in the 1993 election, until his resignation on February 21, 2007. Prior to being elected he was a consultant in economic policies and international trade and was an economist. At the time of his resignation, he was chair of the Subcommittee on Fiscal Imbalance and is the Bloc's Finance critic. He has also in the past been the critic of Western Economic Diversification, International Financial Institutions, Indian Affairs and Northern Development, Intergovernmental Affairs, and Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness. 1993 Canadian Federal Election
The 1993 Canadian federal election was held on October 25, 1993, to elect members to the House of Commons of the 35th Parliament of Canada. Considered to be a major political realignment, it was one of the most eventful elections in Canada's history. Two new regionalist parties emerged and the election marked the worst defeat for a governing party at the federal level. In a landslide, the Liberal Party, led by Jean Chrétien, won a majority government. The election was called on September 8, 1993, by the new Progressive Conservative Party (PC) leader, Prime Minister Kim Campbell, near the end of her party's five-year mandate. Chutes-de-la-Chaudière is a provincial electoral district in the Chaudière-Appalaches region of Quebec, Canada that elects members to the National Assembly of Quebec. The district is located within the city of Lévis, and comprises part of the borough of Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière-Est (the part that is south of Autoroute 20) and all of the borough of Les Chutes-de-la-Chaudière-Ouest. 2007 Quebec General Election
The 2007 Quebec general election was held in the Canadian province of Quebec on March 26, 2007 to elect members of the 38th National Assembly of Quebec. The Quebec Liberal Party led by Premier Jean Charest managed to win a plurality of seats, but were reduced to a minority government, Quebec's first in 129 years, since the 1878 general election. The Action démocratique du Québec, in a major breakthrough, became the official opposition. The Parti Québécois was relegated to third-party status for the first time since the 1973 election. The Parti Québécois (; ; PQ) is a sovereignist and social democratic provincial political party in Quebec, Canada. The PQ advocates national sovereignty for Quebec involving independence of the province of Quebec from Canada and establishing a sovereign state. The PQ has also promoted the possibility of maintaining a loose political and economic sovereignty-association between Quebec and Canada. The party traditionally has support from the labour movement, but unlike most other social democratic parties, its ties with organized labour are informal.
