Yuletracks
''Yuletracks'' is a studio album released in 1986. A folk music/ Christmas music project by Greenwich Village Records, various artists appear on the album, led by Martyn Wyndham-Read (who also was co-producer of the album) and Martin Carthy. Though not all of the albums' artists appear on every track, every artist appears on more than one track. It was recorded in September 1985 to March 1986. It got a re-release on CD in 2011 (its 1986 release was vinyl only). Brian Snelling engineered the album, with George Peckham cutting the album at Portland Studios. Chris Groom was responsible for the albums' artwork and cover. Martyn Wyndham-Read
Arnold Martyn Wyndham-Read (born 23 August 1942, Crawley, Sussex, England) is an English folk singer, who was a collector and singer of Australian folk music. He lived and worked in Australia from 1958 to 1967 and was subsequently a regular visitor to the country. Biography Martyn Wyndham-Read grew up on a Sussex farm; he heard the village blacksmith singing local songs. He formed a skiffle band with fellow villagers, he "learnt to play guitar and belted out Lonnie Donegan-like versions of 'Down by the Riverside' and other American Negro songs." In 1958. Wyndham-Read moved from Sussex to Australia where he worked on Emu Springs sheep station, near Burra, South Australia. Phil Beer
Phil Beer (born 12 May 1953 in Exminster, Devon, England) is an English multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, and one half of English acoustic roots duo Show of Hands. Biography Beer first began to play fiddle, guitar, and mandolin whilst still at school in Teignmouth, Devon. This passion for acoustic music was especially stirred by the Davey Graham album ''Folk, Blues and Beyond''. He played his first gig when he was fourteen in a band called Retrospect with Richard Entwistle, John Allman and Martin Pike and other musicians, and by the time he was sixteen he was performing regularly. Beer worked with Paul Downes as a duo from 1974 and also in the Arizona Smoke Revue 1980. He was a key member of Johnny Coppin's band (ex-Decameron), and together they collaborated with Nigel Mazlyn Jones on his 1979 ''Sentinel'' album. Martin Carthy
Martin Carthy MBE (born 21 May 1941) is an English folk singer and guitarist who has remained one of the most influential figures in British traditional music, inspiring contemporaries such as Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, and later artists such as Richard Thompson, since he emerged as a young musician in the early days of the folk revival in the UK during the 1960s and 1970s. Early life He was born in Hatfield, Hertfordshire, England, and grew up in Hampstead, North West London. His mother was an active socialist and his father, from a family of Thames lightermen, went to grammar school and became a trade unionist and a councillor for Stepney at the age of 21. Albion Band
The Albion Band, also known as The Albion Country Band, The Albion Dance Band, and The Albion Christmas Band, were a British folk rock band, originally brought together and led by musician Ashley Hutchings. Generally considered one of the most important groupings in the genre, it has contained or been associated with a large proportion of major English folk performers in its long and fluid history. Christmas Music
Christmas music comprises a variety of genres of music regularly performed or heard around the Christmas season. Music associated with Christmas may be purely instrumental, or, in the case of carols or songs, may employ lyrics whose subject matter ranges from the nativity of Jesus Christ, to gift-giving and merrymaking, to cultural figures such as Santa Claus, among other topics. Many songs simply have a winter or seasonal theme, or have been adopted into the canon for other reasons. Folk music is a music genre that includes traditional folk music and the contemporary genre that evolved from the former during the 20th-century folk revival. Live In Concept
''Live in Concept'' is the first live album by Downes and Beer, released in 1980. The album sees the band live collaborate with various musicians, including Mike Oldfield (due to Phil Beer's touring with him for ''Exposed''), and also established both The Phil Beer Band who would record in the 2000s, and the first ever Show of Hands released recording, "Half Asleep", although this is a Downes and Beer recording with Steve Knightley guest appearing. This was the last album by the duo until another live album, recorded on one of their rare reunion performances in 2007, was released as '' Live at Nettlebed'' the year after. Paul Downes did work with Beer, however, for some Show of Hands performances in the early 1990s, one such performance being released as an album in 1994. Show Of Hands (1987 Album)
''Show of Hands'' is the debut album by English folk duo Show of Hands. The duo formed when Phil Beer took a break from folk rock band The Albion Band, requesting to Steve Knightley that they record a cassette together in Knightley's garage. Knightley, who had recently returned to the duo's native Devon after departing London, agreed, and the duo recorded the album together in January 1987 in Catsley Home, described by Knightley as an outbuilding in the remotest part of Dorset. The album contains twelve compositions, mostly songs by Knightley. The duo self-released the album in early 1987 on cassette only. It was recorded and released to coincide with their first tour, and was only sold from the duo's concerts. The duo halted their time together as Beer returned The Albion Band, but returned in 1990 with ''Tall Ships'', an album centered on its title track which is a twenty-two-minute adaption of the much shorter song that opens ''Show of Hands''. An album is a collection of audio recordings issued on compact disc (CD), vinyl, audio tape, or another medium such as digital distribution. George Peckham
George "Porky" Peckham (born 1942, Blackburn, Lancashire) is an English record engineer, widely recognised as among the most accomplished in the business. He has been responsible for producing the master discs from which many vinyl records have been pressed over the last 40 years. His master discs, and the records that were produced from them, often bear either the motto "A Porky Prime Cut" or a cryptic or a humorous comment, etched onto the run-out grooves in his handwriting. Other inscriptions attributed to him include "Pecko" and "Pecko Duck". One of his most technically demanding achievements was the so-called "three-sided" album, ''The Monty Python Matching Tie and Handkerchief'' (1973), mastered with two concentric grooves on side two, so that different material would be played depending on where the stylus was put down on the record's surface.
