Ynys Môn (UK Parliament Constituency)
Ynys Môn (; officially called Anglesey until 1983) is a constituency of the House of Commons of the Parliament of the United Kingdom. It elects one Member of Parliament (MP) by the first past the post system of election. The Ynys Môn Senedd constituency was created with the same boundaries in 1999 (as an Assembly constituency). Ynys Môn is represented by Virginia Crosbie of the Conservative Party. Crosbie is the first Conservative to win the constituency since the 1983 general election. History The Laws in Wales Act 1535 (26 Hen. VIII, c. 26) provided for a single county seat in the House of Commons for each of 12 historic Welsh counties (including Anglesey) and two for Monmouthshire. Anglesey
Anglesey (; cy, (Ynys) Môn ) is an island off the north-west coast of Wales. It forms a principal area known as the Isle of Anglesey, that includes Holy Island across the narrow Cymyran Strait and some islets and skerries. Anglesey island, at , is the largest in Wales, the seventh largest in Britain, largest in the Irish Sea and second most populous there after the Isle of Man. Isle of Anglesey County Council administers , with a 2011 census population of 69,751, including 13,659 on Holy Island. William Glynne (MP)
Sir William Glynne (1566 – 1620) of Llanfwrog, Anglesey and Glynllifon, Caernarvonshire was a Welsh lawyer who was elected to the House of Commons for Anglesey in 1593. He was the eldest son of Thomas Glynne of Glynllifon, whom he succeeded in 1608, and was educated in England at University College, Oxford (1578) before studying law at Furnival's Inn and Lincoln's Inn (1586). He sat as MP for Anglesey in 1593. He served in various legal capacities before inheriting his father's Glynllifon estate and was pricked High Sheriff of Anglesey for 1597–97 and again for 1618–19. He was knighted in 1606. Richard Bulkeley III
Richard Bulkeley, of Llangefni and Porthamel, Llanidan, Anglesey, was a Welsh politician. He was the eldest son of Rowland Bulkeley of Beaumaris, Anglesey. He was a Justice of the Peace for Anglesey from c.1593 and was appointed High Sheriff of Anglesey for 1597–98 and 1601–02. Henry Bagenal
Sir Henry Bagenal PC (c. 1556 – 14 August 1598) was marshal of the Royal Irish Army during the reign of Queen Elizabeth I. Life He was the eldest son of Nicholas Bagenal and Eleanor Griffith, daughter of Sir Edward Griffith of Penrhyn. His brother was Dudley Bagenal. Bagenal probably matriculated from Jesus College, Oxford when he was 16 (in 1572 or 1573), but left without taking a degree in order to join his father Sir Nicholas who was then marshal of the army in Ireland. In May 1577, Sir Nicholas was appointed chief commissioner of Ulster, with Henry as his assistant. Bagenal was himself knighted in 1578. He was involved in some military disasters, such as a defeat at Glenmalure on 25 August 1580 when Lord Grey led the troops (with Bagenal one of the commanders of the rear) into battle with Fiach McHugh O'Byrne and Viscount Baltinglass in the Wicklow mountain passes. Owen Holland (died 1601), of Plas Berw, Llanidan, Anglesey, was a Welsh politician. He was the only son of Edward Holland of Plas Berw, Llanidan, Anglesey. Richard Bulkeley (died 1621)
Sir Richard Bulkeley (1533 – 28 June 1621) of Beaumaris, Anglesey and Lewisham, was a Welsh politician and courtier of Elizabeth Tudor, who sat in the House of Commons of England in 1563 and from 1604 to 1614. Life Bulkeley was the eldest son of Sir Richard Bulkeley, of Beaumaris and Anglesey by his first wife, Margaret ( Savage). He was appointed Constable of Beaumaris Castle in 1561 and elected the first Mayor of Beaumaris in 1562. In 1563, he was elected Member of Parliament for Anglesey, a position he obtained through the influence of his father. He was appointed High Sheriff of Anglesey for 1570. His father's sudden death gave rise to much scandal: he was on very bad terms with his stepmother Agnes Needham and accused her of poisoning his father. While Agnes had undoubtedly been unfaithful to her husband, there is no evidence that she was guilty of murder, and the jury acquitted her. William Lewis (1526-1601?) was an MP for Anglesey. Early life He was the first son of Hugh Lewis of Presaddfed Hall and his mother was Agnes, daughter of Sir William Gruffydd of Penrhyn. Sir Richard Bulkeley (1524 – 1572 or 1573) was a Welsh politician. He was the eldest son of Sir Richard Bulkeley, of Beaumaris, Chamberlain of North Wales (in 1534), and his wife Catherine daughter of Sir William Griffith, Knight, of Penrhyn Castle, co. Caernarfon and his wife Jane Stradling. He was knighted at Berwick-upon-Tweed in 1547 by John Dudley, 1st Earl of Warwick and Lieutenant of the King's Army in Scotland.
