Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory
Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan ( hy, Երևանի Կոմիտասի անվան պետական կոնսերվատորիա), also known as Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory (YKSC) or Yerevan State Conservatory (YSC), is a state-owned college of music located in Yerevan, Armenia. The institute was founded in 1921 as a music studio. In 1923, it was turned into a higher musical education institution. It is named after Komitas, the founder of the Armenian national school of music. Student Council The Student Council is self-governed and is formed of students from different study years, who are chosen in the faculty student meetings. The chairman is chosen by the council members. The Student Council is aimed to defend students' interests, help them to solve their social and life problems and organize their free time. Edgar Hovhannisyan
Edgar Hovhannisyan, Hovhannisian or Oganesian ( hy, Էդգար Հովհաննիսյան; January 14, 1930, Yerevan – December 28, 1998, Yerevan) was an Armenian composer, Professor of Composition at the Yerevan State Conservatory, People's Artist of the USSR (1986). He finished the Yerevan State Conservatory in 1953, then pursued post-graduate work at the Moscow Conservatory, where he worked under famed Armenian composer Aram Khachaturian. He was the director of the State Opera and Ballet Theater in Yerevan in 1962–1968. Hovhannisyan is widely considered among the most influential Armenian composers of the 20th century. He is the author of ballets, including "Janna D'Ark", "Sulamif", and "Marmar". Mikael Avetisyan
Mikael Avetisyan ( hy, Միքայել Ավետիսյան; born 1966) is an Armenian conductor, Professor. He was the Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of Armenian Philharmonic Orchestra from 1998 to 1999. Doctor of Music. Biography He studied Opera-Symphony Conducting at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory, and in 1991 he finished his post-graduate studies under the guidance of Ohan Durian. In 1985-1990 he also was a student of Professor Ilia Musin at St. Petersburg Conservatory. Avetisyan was the conductor at the Armenian National Radio and Television Orchestra and the Orchestra of the National Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet. Khachatur Avetisyan (14 April 1926–1996) (Armenian: Խաչատուր Ավետիսյան, ''Xačatur Avetisyan''; alternate transliterations include Avetisian or Avetissian) was an influential Armenian composer, conductor and kanun player. Early life and career Khachatur Mekhaki Avetisyan (Armenian: Խաչատուր Մեխակի Ավետիսյան) was born on April 14, 1926 in Leninakan, Armenian SSR (now Gyumri, Armenia). Anzhela Atabekyan ( hy, Անժելա Աթաբեկյան, born April 11, 1938 in Yerevan) is an Armenian kanun (kanon) player, musicologist, art historian, and professor at the Yerevan State Conservatory. Alexander Grigori Arutiunian ( hy, Ալեքսանդր Գրիգորի Հարությունյան), also known as Arutunian, Arutyunyan, Arutjunjan, Harutyunian or Harutiunian (23 September 1920 – 28 March 2012), was a Soviet and Armenian composer and pianist, widely known for his 1950 Trumpet Concerto. Robert Amirkhanyan
Robert Amirkhanyan ( hy, Ռոբերտ Ամիրխանյան; born November 16, 1939) is an Armenian composer and songwriter. He is a professor at the Yerevan State Conservatory. He wrote over 300 songs, vocal series, operettas. Career In 1969 Amirkhanyan graduated from the Yerevan State Conservatory, class of Eduard Mirzoyan. From 1969 to 1972 Amirkhanyan was the musical editor of Armenian Radio. From 1991 to 2013, he served as the President of the Union of Composers of Armenia. He is an author of many popular Armenian songs ("Hayreni yerkir", "Hayi achker", "Ding-dong", "Arise!", "Arevot andzrev"), soundtracks of films, animation cartoons, operettas, as well as the first Armenian musical, entitled “The Oriental Dentist”. Tatul Altunyan
Tatul Tigrani Altunyan (Armenian: Թաթուլ Տիգրանի Ալթունյան; October 2 (15), 1901, Adana, Adana Vilayet, Ottoman Empire - November 29, 1973, Yerevan, Armenia) was an Armenian conductor, the founder of Armenian State Song-Dance Ensemble (currently named after him), People's Artist of USSR (1965), recipient of the State Prize of the USSR (1950) and university professor. Altunyan was the student of Romanos Melikian and Spiridon Melikian. In 1934, after graduating from the Komitas State Conservatory of Yerevan, he studied at the Leningrad State Conservatory. Altunyan founded the Armenian National Song and Dance Ensemble in 1938, and acted as its principal conductor, giving performances around the world, until 1970. Vartan Adjemian ( hy, Վարդան Աճեմյան, , ; born 27 April 1956) is an Armenian composer of orchestral, operatic, and chamber music whose works have been performed worldwide. Career Adjemian studied composition with prominent Armenian composer Ghazaros Saryan (son of Martiros Saryan) at the Yerevan Komitas State Conservatory from 1973 to 1981.
