Young Love (radio Series)
''Young Love'' is a 30-minute American radio situation comedy that was broadcast on CBS from July 4, 1949, through May 13, 1950. Premise Janet Shaw and James E. Lewis Jr. were secretly married students at a college that prohibited undergraduate marriages. They were wed by a justice of the peace, celebrating afterward with soft drinks and peanut-butter sandwiches at a drug store. Because of the secrecy of their relationship, James lived in a fraternity house, and Janet lived in a girls' dormitory, which added to "the usual problems of newlywed couples". The two usually saw each other on a bench beside a lake on the campus. One exception to the secrecy was Professor Mitch, a member of the college faculty who was James's best man in the wedding. Other characters heard regularly on the program were Dean Ferguson, a "crusty" administrator at Midwestern University and Molly Belle, Janet's roommate. ''Arthur Godfrey's Talent Scouts'' (also known as ''Talent Scouts'') is an American radio and television variety show that ran on CBS from 1946 until 1958. Sponsored by Lipton Tea, it starred Arthur Godfrey, who was also hosting '' Arthur Godfrey and His Friends'' at the same time. Overview The concept for the show was that Godfrey had several "talent scouts" who brought their discoveries onto the program to showcase their talents. The winner of each show was determined by a meter that judged the audience's applause. The radio series began July 2, 1946, and was heard on CBS Tuesday evenings at 9pm. Meet Corliss Archer
''Meet Corliss Archer'' is an American radio program from radio's Golden Age that ran from January 7, 1943, to September 30, 1956. Although it was CBS's answer to NBC's '' A Date with Judy'', it was also broadcast by NBC in 1948 as a summer replacement for '' The Bob Hope Show''. From October 3, 1952, to June 26, 1953, it aired on ABC, finally returning to CBS. Despite the program's long run, fewer than 24 episodes are known to exist. Origins It was based on a series of short stories introduced in 1943, in ''Good Housekeeping'' magazine. by F. Hugh Herbert. The story cycle was also adapted to theatre, as '' Kiss and Tell''. John Crosby (May 18, 1912 – September 7, 1991) was an American newspaper columnist, radio-television critic, novelist and TV host. After winning a Personal Peabody Award for his radio criticism in 1946, he became a member of the Peabody Awards Board of Jurors, serving from 1947 to 1962. During the 1950s, he was generally regarded as the leading critic of television. The latter notwithstanding he was unable to arrest the exponential growth in the viewership of telecasts headlining Elvis Presley, who he attacked viciously in a June 18, 1956 article entitled “Performer's Gyrations May Doom Rock 'n Roll". Although the article had been written in response to Presley's 2nd appearance on the Milton Berle Show, which drew 22.1 million viewers, Presley followed it by appearing, this time at the most coveted moment in prime time television, the Sunday at 8pm slot, and did so at both the Steve Allen and Ed Sullivan shows where he garnered 42.1, 60.7, 56.5 and 54.5 million viewers for ... ''Yours Truly, Johnny Dollar'' is a radio drama that aired on CBS Radio from February 18, 1949 to September 30, 1962. The first several seasons imagined protagonist Johnny Dollar as a private investigator drama, with Charles Russell, Edmond O'Brien and John Lund portraying Dollar in succession over the years.
