''You Are Guilty'' is a 1923 American silent drama film directed by Edgar Lewis and starring James Kirkwood, Doris Kenyon and Robert Edeson. Synopsis Stephen Martin takes the blame over some missing funds in order to spare his half-brother shame. He is forced to give up his sweetheart and travel around the world. Edgar Lewis (director)
Edgar Lewis ( – May 21, 1938) was an American film director. Two of his most famous films were ''The Great Divide (1925 film), The Great Divide'' (1925) and ''The Barrier (1926 film), The Barrier'' (1926). He directed early silent films starring Douglas Fairbanks, William Farnum, Mary Pickford, and Norma Talmadge. Career He began his career as a stage actor and entered the film industry in 1911 as an actor, making his directorial debut two years later. Specializing in action-adventure films and westerns, he directed dozens of pictures between 1913 and 1930, when he left directing and returned to his first love, acting. Most of his films during the sound era were in bit parts or uncredited roles. He appeared in his final film, ''Riding Wild.'' He retired in 1935. He died in Los Angeles in 1938. William Riley Hatch (September 2, 1862 – September 6, 1925) was an American singer and actor on stage and in silent films. Hatch's Broadway debut came in ''The Burgomaster'' (1900); his final Broadway appearance was in ''The Nervous Wreck'' (1923). Edmund Breese (June 18, 1871 – April 6, 1936) was an American stage and film actor of the silent era. Biography Breese was born in Brooklyn, New York. His parents were Renshaw Breese and Josephine Busby. The Opera House in Eureka Springs, Arkansas, was the site of Breese's stage debut in the summer of 1895. He portrayed Adonis Evergreen in ''My Awful Dad''.
