Yannick Agnel
Yannick Agnel (born 9 June 1992) is a French former competitive swimmer who specialized in freestyle events, and is a three-time Olympic medalist. In his Olympic debut at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London, he won gold in the 200-meter freestyle, gold in the 4×100-meter freestyle relay, and silver in the 4×200-meter freestyle relay. He is the current world record holder in the 400-meter freestyle (short course), the European record holder in the 800-meter freestyle (short course), and the national record holder in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle (long course). Agnel's success earned him ''Swimming World'' European Swimmer of the Year award in 2012. Early life Agnel was born in Nîmes in 1992, the son of a nurse and a director of human resources. Swimming At The 2011 World Aquatics Championships
The swimming portion of the 2011 FINA World Championships was held July 24–31 at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai, China. Swimming is one of five aquatic disciplines at the championships. Qualifying criteria In January 2010, the FINA Bureau approved the swimming qualification system for the 2011 World Aquatics Championships. This represented the first time that a qualification system (including time standards) was used for the swimming portion of the world championships. Times had to be swum at a FINA approved competition/meet between March 1, 2010 and June 30, 2011. 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships
The 2012 European Short Course Swimming Championships was held in Chartres, France, from November 22 to 25, 2012. The event was held over four days with heats, semifinals and a final for the 50 m and 100 m events and heats and a final for all other events with the exception of the women's 800 m and men's 1500 m freestyle which are heat declared winners. Heats were held in the morning, with semifinals, finals and the fastest heat of the distance freestyle events in the evening. Each nation was permitted to enter four swimmers into each individual event, however only the fastest two were able to progress to the semifinal and/or final.
