Yanks
''Yanks'' is a 1979 drama film directed by John Schlesinger, and produced by Joseph Janni and Lester Persky, and is written by Colin Welland and Walter Bernstein. It stars Richard Gere, Lisa Eichhorn, Vanessa Redgrave, William Devane, Chick Vennera, Wendy Morgan, Rachel Roberts and Tony Melody. The film is set during the Second World War in Northern England and features no combat scenes. The film depicts the relationships between American soldiers stationed in semi-rural England and the local population during the build-up to Operation Overlord in 1944. In particular, three romances between US service personnel and local women are shown, in order to explore the effects of the cultural differences between the brash GIs or "Yanks" and the more reserved British population. Lisa Eichhorn (born February 4, 1952) is an American actress, writer and producer. She made her film debut in 1979 in the John Schlesinger film ''Yanks'', for which she received two Golden Globe nominations. Her international career has included film, theatre and television. Early life Lisa Eichhorn was born in Glens Falls, New York on February 4, 1952, to Frank and Dorothy Eichhorn. Her father worked in public relations for Western Electric, and she has two brothers and two sisters. John Schlesinger
John Richard Schlesinger ( ; 16 February 1926 – 25 July 2003) was an English film and stage director, and actor. He emerged in the early 1960s as a leading light of the British New Wave, before embarking on a successful career in Hollywood, often directing films dealing frankly in provocative subject matter, combined with his status as one of the rare openly gay directors working in mainstream films. Rachel Roberts (20 September 192726 November 1980) was a Welsh actress. She is best remembered for her screen performances as the older mistress of the central male characters in both '' Saturday Night and Sunday Morning'' (1960) and '' This Sporting Life'' (1963). Dick Bush
Richard Henry Bush (24 June 1931 – 4 August 1997) was a prolific British cinematographer whose career spanned over thirty years. Among his films are Ken Russell's '' Savage Messiah'' (1972), ''Mahler'' (1974) and '' Tommy'' (1975), John Schlesinger's '' Yanks'' (1979), and a number of films directed by Blake Edwards. Lester Persky (July 6, 1925 – December 16, 2001) was an American film, television, and theatre producer. Early life and career Born in Brooklyn, New York, Persky attended Brooklyn College before serving in the Merchant Navy during World War II.
