Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station
The Yangjiang Nuclear Power Station (YNPS; ) is a nuclear power plant in Guangdong province, China. The site is Dongping Town, Yangjiang City in western Guangdong Province. The station has six 1,000 megawatt (MW) CPR-1000 pressurized water reactors (PWRs). The plant began commercial operation in March 2014, and as of 2019 is the largest nuclear power station in China. The plant was originally to be one of the first in China to host Generation III reactors — specifically AP1000 reactors. In 2007 however, plans were revised from the AP1000 design to EPR design. The Taishan Nuclear Power Plant () is a nuclear power plant in Taishan, Guangdong province, China. The plant features two operational EPR reactors. The first unit, Taishan 1, entered commercial service in December 2018, but was shut down from July 2021 to August 2022 to investigate and fix issues with fuel rod cladding. Core Catcher
A core catcher is a device provided to catch the molten core material ( corium) of a nuclear reactor in case of a nuclear meltdown and prevent it from escaping the containment building. A core catcher is made from a special thermally resistant concrete ceramic to prevent nuclear core material from melting through the core catcher; it also has a cooling mechanism to cool down the core material. Ningde Nuclear Power Plant () is a nuclear power plant in Fujian province, China. The site is located in Beiwan village in the town of Qinyu, Fuding, Ningde, Fujian. The Hongyanhe Nuclear Power Plant (红沿河核电站) is located in Donggang Town, Wafangdian in Liaoning Province of China. The site is within the Prefecture-level city of Dalian, north of Dalian City proper. The first unit started commercial operations in June 2013. Phase I consists of four CPR-1000 reactors, which is a design developed by China from the Framatome-designed PWRs at the Daya Bay Nuclear Power Plant.
