Yahudi Ki Ladki
''Yahudi Ki Ladki'' (The Jew's Daughter) is a historical Urdu play by Agha Hashar Kashmiri, on the theme of persecution of Jews by the Romans. It was first published in 1913. The play became his best known work, and a classic in Parsi-Urdu theatre. The play was originally inspired by and adapted from W.T. Moncrieff's 19th century play, ''The Jewess'', and uses a mixture of Urdu, Khari Boli and even Braj Bhasha at places. Adaptations The play was adapted several times in India, in the silent films, the early talkies era and later, attesting to its popularity. Notably the play was made into a film '' Yahudi Ki Ladki'' (1933) by New Theatres Ltd. Calcutta, directed by Premankur Atorthy and starring K. L. Saigal. ''Yahudi'' (), is a 1958 Hindi-language action drama film directed by Bimal Roy. It starred Dilip Kumar, Meena Kumari, Sohrab Modi, Nazir Hussain, Nigar Sultana and others. It was based on the play ''Yahudi Ki Ladki'' by Agha Hashar Kashmiri, a classic in Parsi-Urdu theatre, about persecution of Jews in the Roman Empire. Although, not very well received critically, the film was a big hit despite its alien theme, and was the third-highest grossing Indian film of 1958, owing to the box office draw of Dilip Kumar. The film's lyricist Shailendra won the Filmfare Award for Best Lyricist at the 6th ceremony, for the song "Yeh Mera Diwanapan Hai", sung by Mukesh. The plot bears similarities to Jacques Fromental Halévy's opera La Juive. The story revolves around the life of a foster relationship. Nadira Babbar (born 20 January 1948) is an Indian theatre actress, director and an actress in Hindi cinema, who is the recipient of Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 2001. Nadira founded a Mumbai-based theatre group called Ekjute, a known name in Hindi theatre in 1981. Sohrab Modi
Sohrab Merwanji Modi (2 November 1897 – 28 January 1984) was an Indian stage and film actor, director and producer. His films include '' Khoon Ka Khoon'' (1935), a version of Shakespeare's ''Hamlet'', '' Sikandar'', ''Pukar'', ''Prithvi Vallabh'', '' Jhansi ki Rani'', '' Mirza Ghalib'', Jailor and '' Nausherwan-E-Adil'' (1957). Meena Kumari (born Mahjabeen Bano; 1 August 1933 – 31 March 1972) was an Indian actress and poet, who worked in Hindi films.
