Willie Clancy (musician)

Early life Clancy was born into a musical family in the outskirts of Milltown Malbay, County Clare. His parents (Gilbert Clancy and Ellen Killeen) both sang and played concertina, and his father also played the flute. Uilleann Pipes
The uilleann pipes ( or , ) are the characteristic national bagpipe of Ireland. Earlier known in English as "union pipes", their current name is a partial translation of the Irish language terms (literally, "pipes of the elbow"), from their method of inflation. There is no historical record of the name or use of the term ''uilleann pipes'' before the 20th century. It was an invention of Grattan Flood and the name stuck. People mistook the term 'union' to refer to the 1800 Act of Union; this is incorrect as Breandán Breathnach points out that a poem published in 1796 uses the term 'union'. The bag of the uilleann pipes is inflated by means of a small set of bellows strapped around the waist and the right arm (in the case of a right-handed player; in the case of a left-handed player the location and orientation of all components are reversed). Jimmy Ward (banjo Player)
__NOTOC__ Jimmy Ward (1909 in Tullagha, Kilfenora – 1987 in Milltown Malbay) was a well known Irish traditional banjo player and lilter out of Milltown Malbay, County Clare, Ireland. Ward originally played the flute, piccolo and the whistle, but changed to the banjo in the 1940s. Ward was one of the founders of the renewed Kilfenora Céilí Band in 1927. He was still a part of the band when they won three consecutive All Ireland championships at the Fleadh Cheoil. He is the namesake of ''Jimmy Ward's Jig''. In 1974, Ward decided to leave the Kilfenora Céilí Band. He started a new band named Bannermen with PJ Murrihy and Michael Sexton Later in life, Ward moved to Milltown Malbay, where he opened a small shop. Martin Talty
Martin Talty (Glendine, Milltown Malbay, 10 November 1920 - 16 March 1983 was an Irish uilleann pipes and flute player. Talty started playing the tin whistle, later progressing to the flute. It was under the influence of Johnny Doran (who was playing at the Milltown Races in 1936) that he came into contact with the uilleann pipes.Taylor 2013, p. 28 Talty was one of the founding fathers of the Comhaltas Ceoltóirí Éireann in County Clare in 1954. He was also involved in the organizing committee of the first Fleadh Cheoil in Ennis in 1956 and those in Milltown Malbay in 1957 and 1961. Talty played the uilleann pipes in both the Laichtín Naofa Céilí Band and in The Tulla Céilí Band. He attended the same primary school as Willie Clancy, and the two developed a life-long friendship, strengthened by playing the same instruments. ''Junior Crehan'' (born Martin Crehan, 17 January 1908 – 3 August 1998) was an Irish fiddle player who composed a number of tunes that remain popular within the Irish Traditional Music community. Biography Crehan was born and raised in Bonavilla, Ballymackea Beg near Mullagh, County Clare on the West coast of County Clare. While his father was not a musician, his mother played the concertina. The Crehans frequently opened their home for social occasions, so live music and was a fixture in their home. Junior first took up the concertina himself, but took an interest in an old fiddle in the house, and took up the process of restoring it himself. When established fiddler Thady Casey heard Crehan play in a pub (having taught himself initially), he offered to tutor him - as a result, Crehan learned the fundamentals of fiddling from Thady, and learned stylistically from both him and his brother, Scully Casey, who was also a respected fiddler. Gael Linn (, "Gael-with-us") is a non-profit and non-governmental organisation focused on the promotion of the Irish language and the arts. The organisation's funding includes government and lottery sources. History Gael Linn was founded in May 1953, following a meeting in Cork, with the goal to foster interest in the Irish language and promote artistic events. Since the early years of its foundation, the organisation has also run language courses. In the mid-1950s, Gael Linn supported the production of short films and news reels which were distributed to cinemas. In 1955, Gael Linn established the Irish-language Damer Theatre on St Stephen's Green which it operated until 1976.
