William Henderson (general)
Major General William George Henderson, (19 July 1919 – 10 October 1995) was a senior officer in the Australian Army. Biography Born in Clifton Hill, Victoria, on 19 July 1919, Henderson graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in June 1941. An infantryman, he served in the Second World War, Korean War, Malayan Emergency and Vietnam War. He attended Staff College at Cabarlah in 1945 before holding appointments at Western Command in Perth and as Brigade Major (effectively Chief of Staff) of 13th Infantry Brigade, also in Western Australia. Henderson commanded the 2nd Battalion, Royal Australian Regiment (2 RAR) from November 1957 to November 1958. Clifton Hill, Victoria
Clifton Hill is an inner-city suburb in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, north-east of Melbourne's Central Business District, located within the City of Yarra local government area. Clifton Hill recorded a population of 6,606 at the 2021 census. Western Command (Australia)
The 5th Military District was an administrative district of the Australian Army. Formed shortly after the Federation of Australia, the 5th Military District covered all of Western Australia except the Kimberley region, with its headquarters at Swan Barracks in Perth. Following the First World War, the area's designation was changed to the 5th District Base. In October 1939, it was re-designated as Western Command when the Army moved towards a geographic command structure. In April 1942, the Army was reorganised and Western Command became III Corps in April 1942. Western Command was re-formed in June 1944 when the need for a corps-level headquarters passed. Then-Captain William Henderson, later promoted to Major General, served on the command's staff soon after the Second World War ended. Stuart Clarence Graham
Major General Stuart Clarence Graham, (23 October 1920 – 20 July 1996) was a senior officer in the Australian Army, seeing service during the Second World War, the Occupation of Japan and the Vietnam War. Born in Ulmarra, New South Wales, he graduated from the Royal Military College, Duntroon in 1940. Graham subsequently held a series of regimental and staff appointments, serving in a number of infantry and armoured units during the Second World War. In the post-war period he served in the British Commonwealth Occupation Force in Japan, and held a number of staff and command positions in the Armoured Corps. In the late 1950s he was posted to Army Headquarters, and later served as Director of Military Intelligence. Commanding the 1st Australian Task Force (1 ATF) during fighting in South Vietnam during 1967, he was responsible for establishing the controversial barrier minefield from Dat Do to the coast.
