William H. Block
The William H. Block Company was a department store chain in Indianapolis and other cities in Indiana. It was founded in 1874 by Herman Wilhelm Bloch, an immigrant from Austria-Hungary who had Americanized his name to William H. Block. The main store was located at 9 East Washington Street in Indianapolis in 1896. The company also identified itself as The Wm. H. Block Co., and Block's. History In 1910, a new eight-story store was constructed to designs by Arthur Bohn and Kurt Vonnegut Sr. of Vonnegut & Bohn on the corner of Illinois and Market streets. The new store at 50 N. Illinois Street officially opened it doors to the public on October 3, 1911. Indianapolis Traction Terminal
The Indianapolis Traction Terminal was a major interurban train station in Downtown Indianapolis, downtown Indianapolis, Indiana. It was the largest interurban station in the world and at its peak handled 500 trains per day and seven million passengers per year. The station opened in 1904 and remained in use until 1941, when interurban operation ended. It continued to serve as a bus station until 1968 and was demolished in 1972. The Hilton Indianapolis now stands at its location. Design The terminal was designed by D. H. Burnham & Company, an architectural firm based in Chicago. Christopher & Banks is an American retail company. Originally headquartered in the Minneapolis suburb of Plymouth, Minnesota, it specializes in women's clothing for the age 40-60 demographic. In January 2021, the company filed for bankruptcy and closed all stores due to financial loss from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. Following the bankruptcy and closures, Christopher & Banks' assets and intellectual property were acquired by Eden Prairie-based iMedia Brands. College Mall is a regional shopping mall located in Bloomington, Indiana. This is home to Indiana University's flagship campus. The mall's anchor stores are Dick's Sporting Goods and Target. Bloomington is a city in and the county seat of Monroe County in the central region of the U.S. state of Indiana. Broad Ripple Magnet High School for the Arts & Humanities, established in 1886, was a magnet school of the Indianapolis Public Schools. It was closed in 2018. History Originally built in 1886 in the town of Broad Ripple, the school started with seven students. The campus was destroyed by fire near the start of the 20th century but was rebuilt. In 1923, the school joined the Indianapolis Public Schools when the town of Broad Ripple was annexed into Indianapolis. Through the 1930s and 1940s, the school continued to grow.
