Why (Taeyeon EP)
'' Why'' is the second extended play (EP) by South Korean singer Taeyeon, released by SM Entertainment on June 28, 2016. Lee Soo-man, founder of SM Entertainment, served as the producer of the album. The EP saw the contributions of alternative R&B singer Dean and Taeyeon's fellow Girls' Generation member Hyoyeon. Musically, ''Why'' incorporates various genres including EDM, R&B, and Pop. To promote the EP, Taeyeon performed on three music programs, ''Music Bank'', '' Show! Music Core'', and '' Inkigayo'' from July 1–3, 2016. She further embarked on her first concert tour Butterfly Kiss, which visited Seoul and Busan in July and August 2016. Upon its release, ''Why'' received generally positive reviews from media outlets, who were favorable towards the EP's diverse musical styles and Taeyeon's vocals. Kim Tae-yeon
Kim Tae-yeon (; born March 9, 1989), known mononymously as Taeyeon, is a South Korean singer. She debuted as a member of girl group Girls' Generation in August 2007, which went on to become one of the best-selling artists in South Korea and one of the most popular K-pop groups worldwide. She has since participated in other SM Entertainment projects, including Girls' Generation-TTS, SM the Ballad, Oh!GG, Girls' Generation-Oh!GG, and the supergroup Got the Beat. Girls' Generation (), also known as SNSD, is a South Korean girl group formed by SM Entertainment. The group is composed of eight members: Taeyeon, Sunny, Tiffany, Hyoyeon, Yuri, Sooyoung, Yoona, and Seohyun. Originally a nine-piece ensemble, Jessica departed from the group in September 2014. The Circle Digital Chart, previously known as the Gaon Digital Chart, is the music industry standard record chart ranking the 200 most popular singles in South Korea. It provides rankings on a weekly, monthly, and yearly basis, which is based on an aggregate of streaming, downloads and background music from major South Korean music platforms. It is a part of the Circle Chart, previously known as the Gaon Chart. History The Gaon Digital Chart was launched as a part of the Gaon Chart in February 2010, by Korea Music Content Association and South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism. G-Music Limited is a company built in 2002 by Rose Records and Tachung Records, both are the largest local music retails and wholesale chains in Taiwan. The physical retail arms have been kept separate, for different customer bases and brand identity, but the e-retailing, wholesale and distributor business is unified as Rose Tachung Records. The two chains originally teamed up to create Taiwan's popular music ranking, the G-Music Chart (Chinese: 風雲榜 ''fēngyúnbǎng''). The chains had around 60 locations in 2002.
