Whitley Academy
Whitley Academy (formerly Whitley Abbey Community School) was a coeducational secondary school and sixth form located in Whitley, Coventry, England. The school was rebuilt and opened on 13 October 2000, replacing the former Whitley Abbey Comprehensive School built in the 1950s, which was one of the first comprehensive schools in Coventry. As of 28 January 2021, the school is permanently closed. In July 2007, Whitley Abbey Community School gained specialist status in Business and Enterprise and was renamed Whitley Abbey Business and Enterprise College. On 1 July 2011 Whitley Abbey Business and Enterprise College became an Academy and was renamed to 'Whitley Academy'. The new academy was formally opened on 13 March 2012 by the Princess Royal. Academy (English School)
An academy school in England is a state-funded school which is directly funded by the Department for Education and independent of local authority control. The terms of the arrangements are set out in individual Academy Funding Agreements. Most academies are secondary schools, though slightly more than 25% of primary schools (4,363 as of December 2017) are academies. Academies are self-governing non-profit charitable trusts and may receive additional support from personal or corporate sponsors, either financially or in kind. Peter Alan Waterman, (born 15 January 1947) is an English record producer, songwriter, radio and club DJ, television presenter, president of Coventry Bears rugby league club and a keen railway enthusiast. Richard Keys (born 23 April 1957) is an English sports presenter who has worked for BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Sky, Talksport, Al Jazeera, Fox Sports, ESPN Star Sports , BeIN Sports; and has presented many top-level football matches. Peter Boddington
Peter Boddington (1 October 1942 – 19 December 2020) was a British boxer. He was the Amateur Boxing Association 1967 heavyweight champion and subsequently a professional boxer. Boddington was member of his local boxing club, Rootes ABC. He went to Whitley Abbey Comprehensive School in Whitley, Coventry. Boxing career Amateur Boddington became the British amateur heavyweight boxing champion winning his title in the 80th Amateur Boxing Association Championships at the Wembley Arena, Wembley, London on 5 May 1967. Steven Peter Armes (born 1962) is a Professor of polymer chemistry and colloid chemistry at the University of Sheffield.
