Al Westover
Alan William Westover (born 7 September 1954) is a professional basketball coach best known for his tenure with the Melbourne Tigers in the National Basketball League (NBL), where he coached the team to four consecutive Grand Finals, winning two championships, and being the second winningest coach in league history (based on winning percentage over 100 games coached). Westover also played for the Melbourne Tigers in their inaugural season in the NBL. Westover was the coach of the Shiga Lakestars of the Basketball Japan (BJ) League in Ōtsu City, Shiga. In his first year with the Lakestars, Westover helped the club reach their highest number of wins in their seven-year history, and to the second round of the play-offs where they lost to eventual champions, Okinawa is a prefecture of Japan. Westover Plantation is a historic colonial tidewater plantation located on the north bank of the James River in Charles City County, Virginia. Established in c. 1730–1750, it is the homestead of the Byrd family of Virginia. State Route 5, a scenic byway, runs east–west to the north of the plantation, connecting the independent cities of Richmond and Williamsburg. The plantation has been designated as a National Historic Landmark in the United States, cited for the architectural quality of its early Georgian mansion house and the history of its influential family. In the early years of the Virginia colony, the plantation was one of the sites of the courts of Charles City County. History Sir John Pawlett, by deeds of lease and release, demised most of Westover Plantation in 1665 to Theodorick Bland of Westover for £170. Westover is a historic Southern plantation in Milledgeville, Georgia, USA. History The plantation was established in 1822 by Benjamin S. Jordan. Jordan built the great house, several outbuildings (including a smoke house and slave cabins), and laid out a formal garden. After his death in 1856, the plantation was inherited by his son, Leonidas A. Jordan. The plantation was purchased by Dr. L. C. Lindsley, a Professor of Chemistry at Georgia College, in 1930. The great house burned down after being struck by lightning in 1954. The current home was built in its place. The plantation includes outbuildings and a slave cemetery. Westover Church is a historic church located west of Charles City off Virginia State Route 5 in Charles City, Virginia, United States. It was built in 1731 and added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Theodorick Bland of Westover, Walter Aston, and William Byrd I are buried near the original site of the Westover Church. The tomb of Benjamin Harrison IV has also been reported to be on the grounds. History Between 1611 and 1613, as the colonists moved west from Jamestown, several small parishes were formed, Weyanoke, Wallingford, and Wilmington, among others. Westover, Hampshire, is the ancient manor, now in Dorset, over which much of modern Bournemouth has developed. This area of land marked a historic boundary between Celtic and Saxon civilisations, which found expression as the county boundary between Hampshire to the east and Dorset to the west. Geographically detached parts of the manor (for example the tithings of Longham and North Ashley) may have resulted from the post-Civil War breakup of estates formerly belonging to the Lords Arundell of Wardour. The name probably derives from that of the Dorset Stour, which flows through the manor. At Christchurch, the Stour is joined by the Avon, and at one time the river upstream (west) of this point was known as the "West Stour", while downstream it was known as either the "East Stour" or "Stour & Avon".
