Western Suburbs Magpies AFC
Inner West Magpies (formerly Western Suburbs AFC) is an Australian rules football club competing in the AFL Sydney league. The club is based in the inner west of Sydney, New South Wales, and its senior teams play their home games at their home ground of Picken Oval; having previously played out of Henson Park in 2009 and 2010. The Western Wolves AFC women's team fully integrated with the men's team before the 2019 AFL Sydney season; in conjunction with this integration the club changed its name in order to better represent its region and community. History The Magpies were formed in 1926 and re-formed in 1947. The club, which became the first licensed Australian rules football club in New South Wales in 1962, is located in Croydon Park, next to Picken Oval. Australian football, also called Australian rules football or Aussie rules, or more simply football or footy, is a contact sport played between two teams of 18 players on an oval field, often a modified cricket ground. Terry Ingersoll
Terence John Ingersoll (18 August 1934 – 29 September 2020) was an Australian rules footballer who played with Hawthorn in the Victorian Football League (VFL). Career Ingersoll, a full-forward, had a prolific season for Western Suburbs in 1956, breaking the NSW Australian Football Association record for most goals in a year. He kicked 101 goals in the home and away season, which included 15 and 17 goal hauls in successive weeks, against Balmain and St George respectively. He wrote his name into the record books again at Hawthorn, when he kicked a club record five goals on debut, in the opening round of the season, against Carlton at Princes Park. By the end of the season he had kicked 33 goals, topping Hawthorn's goal-kicking and winning their "Best First Year Player" award. John Northey
John Neville Northey (born 29 June 1943) is a former Australian rules football player and coach. He played from 1963 to 1970 with the Richmond Football Club. Northey was a dual premiership player with Richmond, winning flags in 1967 and 1969. He is better known, however, as a coach. Playing career Richmond A Derrinallum recruit, the lightly framed Northey was a fleetfooted runner and earned the "swooper" nickname by his ability to get the ball and pass it on to a teammate. He played 118 games and kicked 192 goals for Richmond from 1963 until 1970. He also was a member of Richmond's 1967 and 1969 premiership teams. Coaching career Northey left Richmond and moved to Sydney as player/coach at Western Suburbs in the Sydney Football League. Richmond Football Club
The Richmond Football Club, nicknamed the Tigers, is an Australian rules football team playing in the Australian Football League (AFL). Between its inception in the Melbourne suburb of Richmond in 1885 and 1907, the club competed in the Victorian Football Association (VFA), winning two premierships. Paul Bevan
Paul Bevan (born 27 September 1984) is an Australian rules football player with the Sydney Swans of the Australian Football League (AFL). Having grown up in Sydney, playing for Western Suburbs Magpies AFC in the Sydney AFL and the NSW/ ACT under-18s team, he was elevated from the Swans' rookie list in 2004. He played 24 senior games in that year and earned a nomination for the Rising Star award in round four. In 2005, he played 15 games and was a member of the Swans' first premiership winning team in 72 years. In 2010, Bevan managed to solidify his place in the senior side again.
