West Contra Costa Unified School District
The West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD; formerly known as Richmond School District) is the school district for western Contra Costa County, California. It is based in Richmond, California. In addition to Richmond, the district covers the cities of El Cerrito, San Pablo, Pinole, and Hercules and the unincorporated areas of Bayview-Montalvin Manor, East Richmond Heights, El Sobrante, Kensington, North Richmond, and Tara Hills. History The district currently has six neighborhood-assignment high schools, six neighborhood-assignment middle schools, and thirty-six neighborhood-assignment elementary and primary schools along with various continuation and alternative schools. Hercules Middle/High School
Hercules High School is a secondary school located at 1900 Refugio Valley Road in Hercules, California, United States. The campus consists of both a middle school and high school on the same premises, with the administrative complex and library separating the two sides. It was established in 2001 as a 6-12 school. Juan Crespí
Joan Crespí or Juan Crespí (1 March 1721 – 1 January 1782) was a Franciscan missionary and explorer of Las Californias. Biography A native of Majorca, Crespí entered the Franciscan order at the age of seventeen. He came to New Spain in 1749, and accompanied explorers Francisco Palóu and Junípero Serra. In 1767 he went to the Baja California Peninsula and was placed in charge of the Misión La Purísima Concepción de Cadegomó. In 1769, Crespí joined the expedition led by Gaspar de Portolá and Junípero Serra (see Timeline of the Portolá expedition). He traveled in the vanguard of the land expedition to San Diego, led by Captain Fernando Rivera y Moncada, where a presidio and mission were established. Crespí then continued north with Portolá and Rivera to identify the port of Monterey. Contra Costa College is a public community college in San Pablo, California. It is the west campus of the Contra Costa Community College District. It is part of the California community colleges system, one of the three college systems in California. Richmond High School (RHS) is a secondary school located in Richmond, California, United States. It is part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) and serves half of North Richmond and San Pablo. History Richmond High School opened on August 5, 1907, in a two-room building on Standard Avenue with 36 students, three teachers, one principal, and one supervising principal. In 1908 a new building was erected for $85,000 on 23rd Street near Macdonald Avenue. It serviced students in a 34 square mile radius; it currently services half of North Richmond, south of Parr Blvd., and part of the Iron Triangle. Pinole Valley High School is a high school in Pinole, California, United States, in Contra Costa County. First opened in 1967, the school is part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District. De Anza High School is a secondary school located in Richmond, California, United States, named after Spanish explorer Juan Bautista de Anza. It is part of the West Contra Costa Unified School District and serves northeast Richmond, the unincorporated communities of El Sobrante and Rollingwood and a small portion of San Pablo.
