Wayne Schmidt (born October 6, 1966) is a Republican member of the Michigan Senate and former member of the Michigan House of Representatives. He has represented Grand Traverse (and formerly Kalkaska) County in the 37th district since January 1, 2015 and formerly represented 104th District in the Michigan House. Michigan's 37th Senate District
Michigan's 37th Senate district is one of 38 districts in the Michigan Senate. The 37th district was created with the adoption of the 1963 Michigan Constitution, as the previous 1908 state constitution only permitted 34 senatorial districts. It has been represented by Republican John Damoose since 2023, succeeding fellow Republican Wayne Schmidt. Howard Walker (politician)
Howard Walker (born December 10, 1954) is a Republican politician from Michigan who served a term in the Michigan Senate after serving three terms in the Michigan House of Representatives. Prior to his election to the Legislature, Walker had a career in the oil and gas industry and later started and owned a land surveying business. The Michigan Senate is the upper house of the Michigan Legislature. Along with the Michigan House of Representatives, it composes the state legislature, which has powers, roles and duties defined by Article IV of the Michigan Constitution, adopted in 1963. The primary purpose of the Legislature is to enact new laws and amend or repeal existing laws. The Michigan Senate is composed of 38 members, each elected from a single-member district with a population of between approximately 212,400 to 263,500 residents. Michigan House Of Representatives
The Michigan House of Representatives is the lower house of the Michigan Legislature. There are 110 members, each of whom is elected from constituencies having approximately 77,000 to 91,000 residents, based on population figures from the 2010 U.S. Census. Its composition, powers and duties are established in Article IV of the Michigan Constitution. Members are elected in even-numbered years and take office at 12 p.m. (EST) on January 1 following the November general election.
