Watford General Hospital
Watford General Hospital is a 521-bed acute District General Hospital situated on Vicarage Road, Watford, Hertfordshire. Together with Hemel Hempstead Hospital and St Albans City Hospital, it is operated by West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust. History Watford General was formed at the foundation of the National Health Service utilising buildings which were formerly the Watford workhouse and, from 1929, Shrodells Public Assistance Institution. The facility also incorporated the Peace Memorial Wing from 1965 when management of the Peace Memorial Hospital was transferred to the Shrodells site. The Peace Hospice is situated on the former Peace Memorial site. The Princess Michael of Kent Wing at the Shrodells site was opened by Princess Michael of Kent in 1986 and an acute admissions unit was opened by Andy Burnham, the Secretary of State for Health, in February 2010. West Hertfordshire Hospitals NHS Trust
West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust runs three National Health Services hospitals: Watford General Hospital, St Albans City Hospital and Hemel Hempstead Hospital, in Hertfordshire, England. It provides "acute healthcare services to a core catchment population of approximately half a million people living in west Hertfordshire and the surrounding area". The Trust also "serves people living in North London, Bedfordshire, Buckinghamshire and East Hertfordshire". The trust is part of the East of England Local Education and Training Board, and has students from UCL Medical School. In July 2016 Katie Fisher from the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust took over as Chief Executive. She left in March 2018. Peace Hospice
The Peace Hospice is a health facility caring for people with a life-limiting or terminal illness, which is funded by public donations, situated on Rickmansworth Road, Watford, Hertfordshire. It is a locally listed building. History The facility has its origins in the Watford and District Peace Memorial Hospital which was commissioned to commemorate the lives of local people who died in the First World War. The foundation stone was laid by the Countess of Clarendon in July 1923. The building was designed by Wallace Marchment in the Neo-Classical style and was opened by Princess Mary in June 1925. The Watford Peace Memorial was erected outside the hospital in 1928. It joined the National Health Service as the Watford Peace Memorial Hospital in 1948 and became the Peace Memorial Wing of Watford General Hospital in 1965.
