Waldemar Young
Waldemar Young (July 1, 1878 – August 30, 1938) was an American screenwriter. He wrote for more than 80 films between 1917 and 1938. Biography He was born in Salt Lake City, Utah and died in Hollywood, California from pneumonia. Waldemar was a grandson of Brigham Young. He was also a brother of Mahonri Young. Young joined the staff of the '' Salt Lake Herald'' after he graduated from high school. He then went to Stanford University starting in 1900. At Stanford, he played on the football team. He majored in English but also studied economics and history. Young did not finish his studies at Stanford. Instead, he took jobs with the ''San Francisco Chronicle'' and the ''San Francisco Examiner''. In 1912, Young married Elizabeth Haight, who was a great-niece of the early California Mormon leader, Sam Brannan. ''The Unpainted Woman'' is a 1919 American drama film directed by Tod Browning that is based upon a story by Sinclair Lewis. It is not known whether the film currently survives, which suggests that it is a lost film. Plot As described in a film magazine, Gudrun Trygavson (MacLaren) is a beautiful Swedish girl living in the American wheat country where she is employed as a "hired girl" by Mrs. Hawes (Titus). Charley Holt (Butler), son from one of the best families in Mullinsdale, cares for Gudrun and asks her to a dance. When Mrs. Hawes informs Charley's mother and sister of this, at the dance the sister cuts in to separate Charley from Gudrun. Charley becomes determined to marry Gudrun, but after they are wed his snobbish relatives cut them off. Charley gets a menial job as a mill worker, and Gudrun and he try to make the best of things, but their life is miserable due to Charley's drinking. The Wicked Darling
''The Wicked Darling'' is a 1919 American silent crime film directed by Tod Browning, and starring Priscilla Dean, Wellington A. Playter and Lon Chaney as pickpocket "Stoop" Connors. This was the first time Lon Chaney appeared in a Tod Browning film, and many other collaborations between the two men would follow. The film was considered to be a lost film until a copy (with Dutch intertitles) was found in Europe in the 1990s. It was shown at a Tod Browning film festival in Europe in 1996. The copy now resides in the Nederlands Filmmuseum. The print is complete but suffers noticeable decomposition in two separate key scenes. ''The Wicked Darling'' was released on DVD (with translated English intertitles) in September, 2005 along with ''Victory'', another early Lon Chaney film appearance. ''Fast Company'' is a 1918 American silent comedy film directed by Lynn Reynolds and starring Juanita Hansen, Edward Cecil, Lon Chaney and Franklyn Farnum. (Lon Chaney had a relatively small role in this film, but the review from ''Motion Picture News'' slammed him for "overacting".) The film is today considered lost. Co-writer Waldemar Young later went on to script a number of Lon Chaney's later silent films, such as ''The Blackbird'', ''The Unknown'' and ''The Unholy Three'' (1925 version) and collaborated with director Tod Browning as well.
