Waasmunster () is a Municipalities of Belgium, municipality located in the Flanders, Flemish province of East Flanders, in Belgium. The municipality only comprises the town of Waasmunster proper. In 2021, Waasmunster had a total population of 10,912. The total area is 31.93 km2. Roosenberg Abbey, founded in the 13th century, is situated here. Cyriel Geerinck
Cyriel (also spelled Cyrille) Geerinck (5 August 1889 – 19 October 1955) was a Flemish educator, poet, writer and stage director. He was active as a teacher in the Waasland. He studied pedagogy at the St. Joseph Minor Seminary in Sint-Niklaas. In 1909 he started working in the municipal primary school of Waasmunster, where he taught until the 1945-1946 school year. Roosenberg Abbey
Roosenberg Abbey was established in 1238 at Waasmunster, halfway between Ghent and Antwerp. The abbey is still operating at Waasmunster, though not on its original site. Its 750-year history has not been uninterrupted. Today the focus of its spirituality is "Marian and Franciscan". History From the beginning the abbey was occupied by "Victorines" or Canonesses Regular of St. Victor who lived by the Rule of St. Augustine. Waasland
The Waasland is a Belgian region. It is part of the Belgian provinces of East Flanders and Antwerp. The other borders of the Land van Waas are with the Scheldt and Durme rivers. The (informal) capital and major city of the region is Sint-Niklaas. It is also called the ''Land van Waas'' (Land of Waas); Waas most likely refers to the soggy soil of the region although the exact etymology is unknown. One possibility is a connection to the English word "wasteland". The swamps that characterized it have long been drained although many fields are still noticeably convex; the result of many years of plowing the topsoil towards the center to improve drainage. Urbain Haesaert
Urbain Haesaert (born 5 May 1941) is a Belgian football scout and former football manager. Haesaert started coaching at Lokeren. Together with Josef Vacenovský, he reached the quarter-finals of the 1980–81 UEFA Cup with Lokeren, and was vice-champion of Belgium, placing second behind Anderlecht in the 1980–81 Belgian First Division. After bringing Beringen to the First Division A in 1983, he moved to Waregem. He was able to turn Waregem into a competitive club, and in 1986 he reached the semi-finals of the UEFA Cup with the club. In 1998 he quit with managing and became Director of Training at Germinal Beerschot, while in 2004 he became a scout for Ajax. His discoveries, brought from his former club Beerschot to Ajax, include Thomas Vermaelen, Toby Alderweireld, Tom De Mul and Jan Vertonghen. Lokeren () is a city and municipality located in the Belgian province of East Flanders, and belongs to the Waasland, also called ''Land van Waas'', of which it is the second most important city after Sint-Niklaas.
