It is a WAY-FM Network owned and operated station through Hope Media Group (a non-profit entity). As a non-profit under previous ownership of Research Educational Foundation, Inc., it annually hosted two fund-raising drives to remain on the air. KKWA airs a Contemporary Christian Music radio format branded as "WAY-FM". The transmitter is located off Southwest Fairmount Boulevard, amid other Portland-area FM and TV towers. It is a WAY-FM Network owned-and-operated station. 105.9 FM was initially a construction permit with the call letters WVSL in 1991. On September 1, 1993, it officially signed on with an active rock format as "QMF Too," in reference to then-sister station WQMF (105.9 changed to the WQNF call letters). History The station went on the air as WBPT on February 1, 1988, as "Power 89.5 The Spark". It was a simulcast of WSRX (now WJYO) 91.5 "The Spark", which was playing Hiphop, Freestyle, and Dance music at the time.
